Pros
- Quirky design, IP68 rating and Gorilla Glass protection.
- Excellent burst performance.
- Bright and sharp OLED display with HDR10+ support.
- Versatile triple camera setup.
- Clean, fast software with long-term Android support and fun AI/Glyph features.
- Very good stereo speakers and overall multimedia experience.
Cons
- LTPS display lacks LTPO tech - limited refresh rate handling.
- Only average battery life and charging speeds for the price point.
- Thermal management is poor under sustained loads - heavy throttling observed.
- Pricey compared to better-equipped competitors in the same segment.
The cons make it seriously unappealing to even consider as an option. Not to mention the unsymmetrical camera array.
I always looked at nothing like a mid price alternative to Samsung and google…but $800 is insane for this phone. I was waiting on this to be released, and was hoping for another similar price that the nothing 2 released at, but this is a no go price for me. Guess my note 10+ is going to pull a few more years of daily use
At that price you could get the next fairphone with the US markup.
Yep, I like nothing but this is a insane price for this phone
The price is only worth it if you want a phone that stands out and is unique.
Otherwise it’s simply too expensive for what it is.
Smartphones are a mature market and outside of “status symbol” and brand considerations, it honestly makes no sense for the vast majority of people to spend more than USD $400 equivalent on a smartphone.
Even camera quality is increasingly becoming good enough on mid-range devices.
Quarterly “you don’t need to make a new model every year” complaint from me 😘
You’ll be glad to know, then, that the nothing phone 2 came out in 2023, two years ago.
Not only that, but nobody is forcing you to upgrade anytime a new model comes out anyway.
Bi-yearly “you don’t need to make a new model every other year” complaint 🙃
Semi-joking, but legitimately the obsolescence of phones that work along with the idea that they need to innovate all the time is my old man complaint. I recognize that no one is forcing me to upgrade, but that doesn’t stop them from gently nudging consumption for consumption’s sake whenever launching often.
Tldr: genuine kudos to them for not having a yearly phone, but the idea that a 2 year gap is great still frustrates my soul.
I honestly don’t know why people need “high end” phones nowadays. My Nothing phone 3a handles everything I throw at it in a super smooth fashion. Photos are great and the battery lasts for 3 days on average use. The only case I can imagine is heavy gaming but there are gaming phones out there cheaper than "high end” ones.
I really liked my Nothing Phone 1, but £800 is a hard sell.
