Then play more games lol
I’m enjoying the game; I think it’s the best looking Bethesda game but there are a ton of games with better looks. Cyberpunk with ray tracing has Starfield lapped
The facial animations of cyberpunk look old gen tho; but TLOU remake floors any competition
I agree, it’s a gorgeous game but… I’m just not having that much fun. Am I doing something wrong? It seems overly complicated with lots of toggles, menus, etc. I keep having to look up how to fly the ship, reallocate energy, travel to other systems. Not to mention the litany of items to pick up (or not?)
I’ve never played another Bethesda game outside of the wolfenstein trilogy and spinoffs(which I greatly enjoyed)… maybe this is just what their other franchises are like?
Edit: for context, I sunk like 60 hours into No Man’s Sky when it arrived on gamepass, so perhaps I was expecting more of that?
You’re not doing anything wrong, you’re just awake to the reality of what the game is; a load of fetch quests and loading screens. The graphics are bland, the animations are horrible (for example, when my companion is opening her heart in a meaningful ceremony, sobbing and weeping, while the character model stares blankly), PC optimisation is awful. Nearly every quest I did, including main story quests, had glaring bugs and often required using console command cheats to complete.
That’s without even mentioning how it took me a week of fucking around and performing various ‘optimisation fixes’ just to get it to run at all. I purposely did not allow myself to feel any hype or excitement for this game so I’m not disappointed. Just becoming a little numb with the realisation this is what gaming in 2023 is. Broken promises and paying to be a bugtester.
Yeah, that’s kinda how Bethesda RPGs are, but Starfield is a completely different monster. So many systems, so many loading screens.
I would give the game 9.8/10, and never recommend it to anyone unless they have 4000 hours in Fallout and/or Skyrim. It’s just a lot, and you REALLY have to push past the “bad” to see the beauty that’s there.
My issue is that I loathe its combat system entirely.
I love exploring and talking with people, and even flying around using bad menu systems to do fetch quests.
But every mission involves the attrocious spongey gunplay or nonsense ship-controls combat for no reason. I’m an ex diplomat who supports his parents by taking mining gigs ffs!
I will revisit once mods make the game something worth engaging with. I’m a huge Bethesda fan boy, truth be told, so I’ll play it likely a lot in the future, but in its current state it’s just not worth my gaming time yet.
I have noticed fans of NMS not liking or enjoying Starfield much, specially the ones that were expecting something closer to that game.
I haven’t actually played Starfield, so can’t really say anything related to game systems or flying, but “litany of items to pick up or not” is how Bethesda RPGs are. Elder Scrolls and Fallout both are like that. I would say just remove any mental connection you are making with NMS, and try to play it for what it is. You may end up liking it, or you may realise it just isn’t for you.
How many hours do you have in? I was hesitant to even resume the game before 15 hours, but after that I couldn’t stop playing
Have you only played a handful of games? lmao
