And if so, what are you getting?
I had been planning to upgrade this year, but haven’t been massively swayed by any of the phones. I can afford to upgrade, and would get £220 trade in with Apple which I’m unlikely to get next year, but battery health is still 83% for me after 4 years and easily sees me through the day. Any recommendations would be good, even if that’s to sit out an upgrade this year.
After their capitulation to fascism I will try to avoid buying any Apple products ever again. My 15 Pro will hopefully be my last. Their monopolistic walled garden is making it extremely difficult to migrate away gradually.
Just waiting on the future of GrapheneOS and linux phones given the EU’s recent attacks on encryption etc.
I’m on the fence too. But Android is getting much worse with Google kneecapping alternative ROMs an Linux phones aren’t quite there yet.
My 14 pro has a tiny chip in the glass in the corner. If I replace the battery, then they will have to replace the screen too and my that point I’m halfway to a new phone anyway. So I’m looking at my options.
This probably isn’t the thread or community for you then.
You can be an enthusiast about a product while disagreeing with the actions or policies of the company that makes them.
The mentality you’re putting forward is the path to an echo chamber IMO
It’s my question! And clearly I’m interested in what model of iPhone people are upgrading to, not what obscure device and niche OS are you moving to as a result of global politics.
If I asked “Who should I bet on to win the next FIFA World Cup?” I wouldn’t want an answer similar to “I don’t follow football anymore because FIFA are a corrupt organisation, and I’m looking forward to the World Slackline Yoga Championships.”
Great, doesn’t help me at all, and why mention it in a football thread, in a football forum.
On your op you stated
“Any recommendations would be good”
But then this recommendation is no good… They are not suggesting you should get a calculator or a fidget spinner instead of a smartphone, which would be more like your example.
Fair enough, but the implication of what I’m asking is right there, and the community I’m asking it in should reinforce that.
But I think the example is accurate, because “smartphone” is analogous to “sport” in this context, for which I deliberately chose an obscure alternative.
They answered these questions, though they’re not technically and iPhone 13 Pro owner specifically.
Based on your intention, perhaps you might have specified “which iPhone are you getting?”
Well yes, in hindsight I should have tailored the post that’s already in an Apple-specific community, asking about upgrades following the previous day’s iPhone launch, and which references Apple in the body of the post, for those people who were unable to infer the question’s intent.
I’m a few months down that path already. Went from a 13 mini to a Pixel 9 running Graphene back in March and have been shifting most of my desktop computing over to Linux.
Honestly, Graphene is pretty nice. One hell of a learning curve, but now I’m beginning to figure out what I can do that isn’t possible with iOS, I can’t see that I’ll ever want to go back.
