This. I entirely understand that some people don’t have that option, but it’s worth reiterating that if you have a choice, you’re best off not to have partitions at all.

I run Mint on an 8-year-old Mac desktop machine with no partitions and it’s lightning-fast for everything I need it to do.

It’s also worth mentioning that I have said desktop machine because my wife is a pro photographer and Apple and Adobe have colluded for decades to create a kind of “planned obsolescence” whereby professional photographers are ostensibly locked out of the current industry standard unless they run a very recent version of Photoshop that by design isn’t compatible with hardware architecture that’s more than about 5-years-old.

  • This is a win for UAW though. They are trying to unionize Tesla’s workers and this behavior gives them an edge on the already labor-friendly NLRB by showing that Elon is actively anti-union.

If anyone thinks for a moment that union organizers don’t actively plan this kind of thing out, I can assure that they do. It’s part of their job description. My union is a lot smaller than UAW and our organizers get up to all kinds of subterfuge and shenanigans, so I can only imagine what the UAW people are doing.

Yeah, the “ease of use” one is complete bullshit. It’s “easy to use” if you’re accustomed to their “walled garden” model and don’t mind everything being automated so as to deepen your dependency on their larger ecosystem.

    It’s all bullshit.

  • That’s nowhere near as true as it once was. Most of your big well-supoorted distros run flawlessly on most big brand machines.

Where you’ll run into problems is in using more obscure distros that require a lot of tweaking and customization, but something like Ubuntu should run beautifully out of the box and if it does have a problem it will be very well-known and heavily documented with easy to follow step by step instructions on fixing it. Linux just isn’t the pain in the ass it used to be. Or at least it doesn’t have to be.

  • That’s fair. The far left certainly can be violent, as it was in the late 60s and early 70s --my parents were actually friends with SLA members in SF in the late 60s, though they themselves had nothing to do with it-- but it’s just a fact that far right violent extremists happen to be far more active in our current era.

Various IC organizations have been saying this for at least the last 6 or 7 years, and events have proven them correct; while the far left is certainly guilty of violence against property, the far right has accrued a much higher body-count.

  • Wages have gone up much more under Biden who after all, inherited a badly crippled economy in the 1st place. Trump talks a lot, makes big promises, tells lots of lies, but meanwhile his only legislative accomplishment was to sign a giant tax cut for the rich that was completely written by congressional Republicans rather than his own administration.

And that’s not even mentioning all his foreign policy blunders and the fact that he was an international laughing stock among all our major allies.

    I could go on but I won’t.
