Why? First, because this editorial board doesn’t like getting yelled at. Second, there are going to be way fewer people with way less power mad at us.
I love this article lmao
GD ftw. I read somewhere there’s going to be ankther expansion. Is it true? And when?
I think it’s DDG. I forget exactly, but i think I’ve read somewhere DGG has ties to Bing. Idk the specifics.
As for Brave, yeah. I agree. It’s good to be wary. Unfortunately, not a lot of chromium-based alternatives. Linux has ungoogled chromium but security isn’t that great either. It sucks, tbh.
I would rather implement a way to export/import account data.
This is perfectly reasonable. I think a lot of users will be happy with this. Also, I agree with the view that lemmy isn’t focused on individual users. We have X, Mastodon, etc. for that. Thanks for the response!
First of all, I’d like to say thank you and that I appreciate your work. Lemmy is great and I’ve found a new home (at least for the foreseeable future). I first joined lemmy.ml once I learned about lemmy, and I have to say I had a good experience there. You guys even responded directly to my noob questions, and I honestly felt welcome which helped me decide to stay.
My questions are about account migration. As you may have already seen, I’m not with lemmy.ml anymore. The reason is I saw you guys stickied a post encouraging users to use different instances (since the server was having trouble with the influx of redditors at that time). I figured I’d help by first moving to a smaller instance. I have no regrets, although switching was a bit tricky since I had to start from scratch.
What are your thoughts on account migration? Is it in the works or is it something that’s a little far into the future? No pressure since I know you guys are busy with other stuff.
15:00 CEST. That’s the time they’ll start answering questions, i think. It’s already Monday where I am lol.
You’re absolutely right, now that I think about it. My bad. But yeah, it makes more sense to upstream and make the features toggle-able.
Not all instance owners may want all those features implemented. Not the same but kind of like how Beehaw doesn’t allow downvotes while other lemmy instances do.
You don’t agree with the site, so you stop using it. If enough people do that, they lose money.
Maybe someone should tell them that’s never gonna happen, then? Because a lot of them seem to think the amount of protestors are more than enough to influence reddit traffic. I’m all for boycotting reddit (i was probably here earlier than most rexxitors - this is my 4th account due to looking for a good home instance), but stopping people from protesting is just wrong. Protesting doesn’t mean just boycotting.
let Lemmy/kbin grow naturally. As long as it maintains consistent positive growth, it will be a beautiful thing in some years.
As far as the Fediverse is concerned, I agree completely.
There’s no need to spam reddit.
There may be no need, but there certainly is a reason in some people’s minds.
Permission to use this in the future for similar comments. With credit, of course. You explained it better than i ever could.
People who say stuff like what the person you’re answering said are just being naive. To them, protest = boycott. Personally, i dislike retreating with tails between my legs (but I’m not going to try to convince people to do anything either way). They also seem to believe there are so many protestors that any action we do affects reddit so much. It’s hilarious. They left reddit but retained reddit’s black and white mentality.
Honestly, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with what you said and I respect that. But I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree (at least for “major” events like r/place). :)
I never go to reddit anymore and only went to r/place. My reasoning is this: they will get their views whatever we do. Bots, streamers, and the sheer popularity of r/place in reddit guarantees that. A few thousand lemmings definitely won’t make a mark, anyway, so why not use that for our cause?
There are still a few people on the fence (on leaving reddit) and more people (certainly more than i exected) are still ignorant of the whole API debacle. It’s honestly rare now, but we still get someone who is trying to migrate in our discord.
Some people say the canvas is bigger this year. Idk if that’s true (I honestly can’t remember what happened in 2022), but if it is that’s probably their plan - make the canvas big enough so the details don’t show up (or aren’t obvious) when showing the entire thing.
If that’s not true, well, please don’t shoot me.
Could be, tbh. Or they thought it’d just alienate users more and add more controversy.
Yeah. It’s not that hard. And it’s not like there weren’t thousands (I’m not even exaggerating - it’s probably tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands) 1-karma 1-day-old accounts there for bots. So no, i did not cause reddit’s traffic to skyrocket, if that’s what you’re trying to get to.
Yeah. But that’s expected (it’s like encouraging violence on a real person). And it’s only 1 artwork among a sea of “fuck spez” lol. The snoo hung upside-down (Mussolini -style) wasn’t.
Lol no. I’m definitely not invested. I just deleted the account I made for r/place literally half an hour ago and uninstalled the app.
I also don’t believe the protest failed because killing reddit was never my goal nor expectation. We’re on lemmy/kbin. That’s a win. There are people who think the way to win is to bring down reddit, but imho that’s simply impossible.
Enjoy your walk. :)
Unfortunately I can’t because there’s a storm here. :(
Ah. Interesting. Thanks for the link.
I’m in Asia. I can’t speak for everyone but the people I know distrust the CCP much more than the US government. Sure, the US is far from blameless, but at least over here the CCP has a much worse reputation. I guess that’s one factor.
Another is more than a few people seem to think Meta is strictly a private company while tiktok is somehow being used/controlled by the Chinese government.
