How would someone buy Lemmy? Even if they bought one instance it could just be forked
How would someone buy Lemmy? Even if they bought one instance it could just be forked
What if I told you it was more than just the business cycle
What if I told you the entire economic structure acted like this
Check out the business lifecycle. “Enshittification” occurs after a business reaches maturity and has to squeeze more money out of its users or decline. Facebook, Reddit, and Twitter are all businesses, so they follow this cycle - Lemmy and Mastodon are not so they do not. That’s not to say that bad moderation can’t crater a user base, but it’s not inevitable like it is with businesses.
Oh, my b.
However, please keep this in mind - that being a Nazi sympathizer does not automatically invalidate one’s opinions on other topics.
If you think that Nazis are worth sympathy, then you’ve demonstrated that your decision-making ability is warped enough that it does invalidate your other opinions.
We do a new Megathread every day and lock the old one to keep discussion current. We wouldn’t lock a whole megathread because of one unimaginative impotent weasel Nazi sympathizer.
With all due respect on one hand here we have Sir Charles Trevelyan, assistant secretary of Her Majesty’s Treasury, and in charge of administering aid in Ireland during the Blight who said
“We must not complain of what we really want to obtain. If small farmers go, and their landlords are reduced to sell portions of their estates to persons who will invest capital we shall at last arrive at something like a satisfactory settlement of the country”.
But on the other hand we have you saying “no they didn’t.”
It had everything to do with capitalism. There are quotes from people in the British government during the Blight talking about withholding aid to poor farmers so the land would be purchased by people who would develop it.
As opposed to, what, exactly? Capitalism, which gave out hugs to native Americans and free back rubs to the Irish when the blight hit?
Someone compared us to Nazis and you don’t think we’re being attacked?
It seems pretty apparent that all of the most ardently anti-Hexbear users on here aren’t operating in good faith. Comments like yours make it pretty apparent. Just say that you don’t want Hexbear federated because it’s communist, and you’re a staunch anti-Communist.
Don’t be a jerk, put it in spoiler tags or something
Left unity means left unity
You’re right - I shouldn’t have assumed that was your ideology, but the only people more ardently anticommunist than liberal capitalists are fascists and I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt. My broader point is that you already are perfectly happy to share a space with “evil” ideologues, who have committed terrible atrocities across the planet. And you’re even willing to stoop to denying genocide in the process of trying to claim that there’s rhetoric that there’s no time or place for. You have no actual argument here, just hypocrisy and anti-communism.
I’m getting into it in someone in this comment section who went as far as genocide denial, if you want to see the kind of hostility we regularly face. I don’t want to link to it directly, but you can easily find it by scrolling up.
Insulting my intelligence isn’t a good way to make your case, especially on a topic which you are so flagrantly ignorant about - everything I have said here has been well-documented, and given your attitude I am disinclined to explain it directly. Instead I invite you to educate yourself on the atrocities committed against my people - even a cursory inspection of the Wikipedia page of the Great famine will show no exaggeration on my part.
Furthermore, you’re shifting the goalposts. Your ideology committed great atrocities against my people. Why should my ideology be treated differently from yours, if that’s the litmus test?
That said, it is extremely hard to stay engaged on Lemmy when there is background of constant, shallow hate and derision thrown at me and my views.
With all due respect, this is how communists feel whenever we try to present our own interpretation of events. Even presenting objectively true statements that aren’t 100% in line with a Western perspective gets a flood of “wumao 5 cent army Russian bot” comments.
I don’t have to imagine it. My family was the victim of capitalist genocide, my family did have graves defiled. They were Irish during the famine and had the temerity to continue to be Catholic when they immigrated to America where they still had to be second-class citizens for another hundred years. By your own logic, why should I be civil toward liberal capitalists who defend the same system that tried to explicitly eradicate my family and their culture?
For us over at Hexbear that’s a feature, not a bug. Our instance exists explicitly because we don’t want to be subjected to the political moderation of others.
