I already use ff and if there’s a site that requires drm to work, i don’t care for that site. They need visitors not the other way around.
Submodules is the way to go, but really it’s always a good idea to use tagged releases or commit id’s for code from upstream as they might implement a breaking change at some point, taking Your project down with it.
The opposite, they do great things abd they have awesome products. Yes, they are expensive, but good too and you can get good stuff for free too.

I actually witnessed IE’s rise, leaving netscape navigator and opera in dust, and then open source phoenix (later firefox) rising from ashes, steadily taking back user share. Google chrome took a good chunk too and by that time IE was done and desperate enough to give in and use chromium framework.
There was a point in time I thought it’s impossible, the close source monstrosity with neverending standards incompatibilities will stay on quick launchers forever but it did not. What a journey.
