this place is still so small and the culture here seems overwhelmingly more judgmental then what I’m usually used to I have to agree. People originally came to Lemmy for some “fresh air”. How about discussions without having to call anyone that disagrees with you an “asshole”? I really wanted Lemmy to take off but in my opinion it turned off many as Lemmy turned into a belief narrative. If you don’t 100% toe the line of the narrative you are condemned. And piled on by many others who also believe anyone with an opinion different than theirs’s has to be “eradicated.” I tried starting groups and participating in groups that dealt with interests that would avoid all the bullshit name calling. And most of them got zero traction, and slowly died to zero participation. I still enjoy coming here and participating in some of the groups. I also prefer interacting with smaller numbers of users than the thousands in many reddit groups.

Ironically my point will be made by this comment being downvoted. And also rather than posted “replies” having a civil conversation about the issue, there will be you are an “asshole” comments

  • I read through this thinking many people don’t understand how “flair” works on reddit. If you want to have a fair discussion about r/conservative you need to be able to agree that overall reddit leans Left. I say this as a NON conservative myself. Most all political groups on reddit on the conservative side have a flair policy. You read the group rules and it will clearly state that they will only grant you flair if you are a conservative. Mods will go through your posting history and check you out. If you are a deemed a conservative you are granted flair. This is not a place to argue with conservatives. It’s for conservatives to talk among themselves and they don’t always agree with each other. REGARDING BANS - If you are not “flaired” the auto mod will reject your post or comment. So the only way you could possibly get banned is if a r/conservative mod actually took the time to go through all the removed posts and comments from the non flaired users. And if that mod saw a comment or post that you made that attacked conservatives they could ban you. But I think it unlikely that any mod is going to go through all the rejected posts and comments.

  • Having successfully done this here’s how it works. I used a VPN that was part of my antivirus subscription. It came with it without additional charge. This antivirus sub also comes with their own browser which I had never used before. If you are using a browser that you had previously used for reddit - make sure you have deleted all reddit cookies, make sure you have deleted any reddit browser extensions. And make sure you have deleted all reddit passwords that may be saved by that browser. Use an email for confirmation that you have never used before for reddit. This works, but if you ever try to access reddit via your phone or without using the VPN you will be banned for ban evasion.

  • Maybe I’m strange but I enjoy reading lots of posted articles even if the headline conflicts with my personal view point/s. Many times you can actually get a better understanding of the opinions of those who disagree with you. I never reject a source. I prefer to read the article and then respond factually with the reasons I disagree with the posted article. Too often I see “I am rejecting the source” because they have no factual comeback.
