Leopards, face-eating, and whatnot.
Gift link for the NYT article if I did that right.
If you are surprised by this you probably have a poster of Ayn Rand on your wall.
This is the kind of stuff you see on a Netflix series and think, “OK they’ve really jumped the shark this time.”
I know a guy like that too. Okay, it’s me. I have to ask the doctor to let me be lying down when I get a shot. But at least it’s not as embarrassing as passing out in the little chair and have a 115 lb. nurse trying to hold me up before I hit the floor. That has happened more than once.
Good thing they were keeping tabs on him.
I don’t remember, tbh. I do agree with your comment that the headline is misleading in that it implies wrongly that net migration from Texas to California is positive.
I do think people make way too much of the net migration from California to Texas, which I think can fairly be described as negligible. I don’t recall what made me think that a reply to your comment was the best place to make that argument. Maybe because this was where I was when I saw the 60k figure. Sorry if it was off-putting.
So, 60 thousand people is like 0.15% of California’s population. That’s like a 400 lb. man going on a diet and losing 9.6 ounces. Is it really even worth mentioning?
Yah and cold fusion is right around the corner.
They honestly never bothered me too much but I have to say if they ever succeed in defeating the ad blockers it will be hard to go back now that I’ve seen this side.
Honestly, I never bothered to install an ad blocker before today. I just figured ads were tolerable. This move by YouTube got me to switch to firefox and install ublock origin and oh my is it glorious. I can wait 5 seconds for my video to start since I am used to ads anyway.
I want him to get the help that he needs. Not because I sympathize with him to any degree (I don’t). But because I want him to stop ruining everything.
I don’t think there will be much damage. It’s not as though this were some huge surprise. The only people left on X agree with him or don’t care enough to mildly adjust their habits. I saw that IBM “paused” their ads, but I’d bet a nickel they will resume them once this blows over. They know what Xitter is. All the corporations know and don’t care. This very article on the NYT website has a button to share it on Twitter.
That’s interesting I’ve been on Mastodon for just over a year and nobody has mentioned Linux yet.
I don’t know anything about UK law but in my observations, giant corporations with tons of cash and armies of lawyers solicitors do what they want. I could be wrong but it is just my cynical view, not legal advice.
Gosh if only Meta hd money for lawyers, they could squish this like a bug. Oh, yeah. They do have money for lawyers. Tons of it.
How can it not? If you have a $40k system, you will make enough electricity to avoid paying for electricity at all. You will probably even get a small check from the power company every month. Add up the check and the old utility bill and I bet it beats bank interest on 40k by a mile. Not to mention you are probably eligible for some tax incentives.
If I’m lucky I can manage to keep the eyeroll and smirk on the inside. I’m kind of inelegant with social graces though.
That’s a good 80% of the monstrous pickups in my neighborhood.
