Cripple. History Major. Irritable and in constant pain. Vaguely Left-Wing.
The Foxblob emojis are fantastic
That’s how the world should be treating us. Fuck us.

In the mid-1950s, nearly half of all Germans polled said ‘yes’ to the proposition that ‘were it not for the war, Hitler would have been one of the greatest statesmen of the 20th century.’ Until the late 1950s, nearly 90 per cent gave an answer other than ‘yes’ when asked if their country should recognise the Oder-Neisse line, the new border with Poland. Perhaps most revealing of all was their stance on Jews. On 12 June 1946, Hannah Arendt hazarded the opinion to Dolf Sternberger, one of occupied Germany’s most prominent publicists, that ‘Germany has never been more antisemitic than it is now.’ As late as 1959, 90 per cent of Germans polled thought of Jews as belonging to a different race – while only 10 per cent thought of the English in these terms.
People are less likely to change their views than they are to be shamed into silence, and then die off in quiet misery.
All bets are off, man. “It couldn’t happen here” is an old and tired refrain, I’m afraid.
“It’s a good thing that our current situation couldn’t get any worse.”
Situation: [gets worse]
Don’t worry, by 2028 they’ll be all-in on whoever the fascist ghoul is without a lick of self-reflection. Even if it’s Trump again.
“Maybe another billion dollars for police to jerk off in their cruisers and collect overtime at the expense of all other municipal budgets will help!” - Political discourse in this fucking country
Fantastic idea! I miss Tumblr terribly ever since the Great Porn Ban of 2018, even though I never even reblogged or followed ‘adult’ blogs. I just wanted to reblog holsum and funny fanart, but fuck giving into puritan corpo censorship.
What’s the moderation policy on genocide denial and the like? I hate having to ask this, but having heard too many people deny the Holodomor on here, I feel it necessary to make the inquiry.
For that matter, more generally, are you prepared, in terms of moderation structure, for the massive amount of legitimately disturbing material that’s going to pass through the site and will need to be removed if the site grows beyond a few hundred users? I would hate to join and then see this crash because of (completely understandable) moderator/admin burnout at the depravity and speed of mankind’s worst elements.
This is what I mean when I talk about how no amount of suffering will turn people to our side.
Suffering will not cure these fuckwits.
New York mayoral races are notoriously unpredictable due to the city’s chronically low turnout. In 2017, for example, Bill de Blasio won reelection with only 14% of registered voters coming out to support him.
Damn, my hopes for Mamdani just got even higher. Low turnout under ordinary circumstances give high-enthusiasm candidates an advantage, by that enthusiastic base’s relative size to the ordinarily voting electorate.
Sadly ineligible. He’s a naturalized citizen.
Christ, it’s 2025. I should fucking hope that none of this fucking matters for the 2028 primary.
“6-figure salaries just aren’t cutting it”
Reminds me of the people who insist on higher taxes but complain that raising taxes on their lowly 300k+ two-income household would be oppression.
It’s never enough.
What is wrong with us?
Apathy, hopelessness, ignorance, and, in the case of GOP voters, malice.
Not sure where they’re getting that number from, honestly. The actual numbers are MUCH smaller, though still non-neglible.
So you’ve decided shitting on people who voiced valid opposition is the best course of action
Ah yes, the ‘valid opposition’ of critical support for literal fascists winning, under the excuse that “both sides are the same anyway”.
Very valid, as this event (one of many, I might add) shows. Marginalized groups which depend on the government not being fascists thank you and your kind for your principled stand against our lives. It’s truly a privilege.
I believe that the ultrapurist attitude that many Lemmy users follow was a non-zero factor in the loss in 2024, such as the some 2 million 2020 Biden voters who refrained from voting for Harris solely on the strength of the Palestine issue; and that the Dem Party’s fecklessness and incompetence was, likewise, a very non-zero factor.
Lemmy users ourselves, as with any small community, are not really a factor in anything but in determining which discussions are useful to have here.
Let’s not blame the insane people in power, no it’s the Lemmy people who had valid criticisms of Harris who clearly swung the whole vote in trumps favor. Actual insanity.
Goodness gracious me, why would I complain on Lemmy about the behavior and opinions of people on Lemmy?
It’s truly a mystery.
