  • Capitalism is an inherently unstable system due to the contradictions that define it. Scapegoats are necessary to prevent working class from rising up, and economic conditions in the US have gotten so bad that most people no longer care about sustaining the status quo. So I don’t think the current rise of fascism could have been prevented without a socialist alternative.

Also Biden had already changed the geopolitical landscape when he openly funded an (even domestically) deeply unpopular genocide.

  • This is a great attitude to have. You can do so much on a local level. Be there for the people around you, and try to notice when someone is not doing well and might need your help. Speak up for those whose voices are not being heard. Being available and protective towards those in your own community who are vulnerable is the least you can do. Some other significant ways you can contribute are:

    • volunteer at organisations that provide food/shelter/harm reduction
    • become a union member and help with the fight towards fair compensation for every worker
    • volunteer at organisations that have a goal of building community and provide safe spaces
    • donate to organisations mentioned above

Also realise that you do not know what it’s like to be disabled/queer/of an ethnic minority/a person of colour or of another vulnerable group (unless you are a part of that group of course). You need to learn about their struggles before you can effectively help them. You probably already know someone who belongs to one of those groups, now is the time to listen to them and learn from them so you can better vocalise their struggles towards those who don’t understand.

Also, motivate others to do the same! All hope is not lost, humans instinctively look out for one another and the biggest change is made through helping those around you.

  • This is dangerously wrong. Any person can have a huge impact on their own community without changing countrywide politics. It is super important that caring USians start contributing to their communities and help the people that are more at risk of being wrongly prosecuted for living their life. Please volunteer at mutual aid programs, please protest against genocide, please educate the people around you, please make sure trans and queer people are safe, please speak out about racism. And when you witness a nazi victimising someone based on their identity/race/disability/etc, please act and don’t look away.

Telling people that ‘change is hopeless’ only endangers vulnerable groups more.

  • I’m commenting under an article about the European council why would you assume I’m in the US?

We don’t all have friends in Gaza, most people don’t which is why they are so good at ignoring what’s going on there.

Comparing the Palestinian genocide to China’s repression of Uyghurs is minimising the absolute horrors that are taking place in Palestine. Uyghurs are being repressed and China is violating their human rights, they are not being slaughtered.

The Palestinian genocide is funded by the West. Mostly by the US but the EU and my government is also complicit. I, as a EU citizen will always press harder on crimes that are committed in my name.

  • Hormonal replacement therapy makes trans women lose their advantage regarding muscle growth so the only real ‘advantage’ they have to being trans is being taller on average, but cis women can be tall as well and that was never considered unfair. Also trans women have disadvantages because they often have to deal with surgeries meaning they can’t train for months and they face a lot of discrimination which can impact performance, training possibilities and income (which also affects training possibilities and time). Trans women have never been a threat towards women’s sports, the percentage of trans women with medals is less than that of cis women. Even if you remove the factor of discrimination then the advantage trans women have is no more than a cis woman who is born with very slow muscle acidification. Talking about actual unfair advantages, in many olympic sports you have to have rich parents to be able to get on an olympic level because training facilities are expensive and you (and your parents) need to have a lot of free time.
