Business unionism needs to die in the current labor movement.
Business unionism needs to die in the current labor movement.
It really sucks that it’s become so commonplace for union leadership to hold closed door negotiations. Union members should be present and reporting back to fellow members on just what is on the table for the union as a collective to be on board with or fired up against.
That’s just a function of how the host server sorts posts. I am fairly sure that functionality could be implemented without the need to even fork the version.
You can go to your user setting and select new comments and do this now.
Kind of like if there was a Lemmy Star Trek server and it hosted a bunch of communities with different topics that are all related to Star Trek?
The architecture is in place to do what you’re talking about. Just needs the right people to adopt the approach over time.
Game looks really good. I was hyped to play Super Mario RPG with my kids but might put that off to play this instead.
No but plenty of independent studios have already agreed to the terms the strike is ongoing over, and are able to continue production.
I just want the communities I post in to grow. Just trying to do my part to keep people engaged and encourage others to do the same.
I really enjoyed it, just got burned out from the MMO perpetual grind. I think about going back but have no interest trying to “prove” myself to competent players in order to have a good time.
Why stop at single family housing?
I live in a house that was sold at below market rates, under the condition that I will also sell to the next homeowner at a below market rate, there is a fixed equity gain each year to cover general home owner costs. I own the house, the city owns the land the house is on, HOA covers outside upkeep like roofing, window cleaning and driveway maintenance. This is known as a Community Land Trust.
There is no reason this method of housing can’t also be applied to folks that live in an apartment. Fuck corporations they shouldn’t own anything.
Wowee you are really drinking that kool-aid aren’t you?
The rail road workers got everything they wanted and more.
Sick leave? You know that crucial safety issue of staying home when you can’t perform your job. How about the skeleton crews the rail companies run giving inspectors a total of 2 minutes per car to do mandatory inspections? All these issues labor was raising before the national disaster of East Palestine.
The admin followed up even if the media fell off.
Do you even know what you are championing in this statement? “CSX was the first to grant paid sick days to several of its unions and has now granted sick days to 61% of its 17,089 unionized employees.” OH boy 10k people got 4 days of sick leave, what a joke. That’s bread crumbs. It’s nothing to celebrate, that’s what the rail companies want to diffuse the public pressure.
Biden and the democrats doing such good things like preventing the working class from striking. Take the blinders off.
And I’ve never felt better.
Oh god not CoMmUnIsTs?!
Blessing and a curse…
Yes it was a bit of work to find niche subjects in the old days but it was all out there if you really cared. Having communities too accessible to casuals is both a blessing and a curse. Constant conversation is a great time killer but the quality of those conversations really suffers.
It is really a fine line between the two and I think federated social media could actually pull it off. Reddit has been shit for a long time and the API fallout, even though it had no direct impact on the way I used Reddit, was just the last straw. No point trying to save a dieing animal, sometimes the most difficult decision is for the best.
Niche community boards existed before Reddit, they will exist after Reddit.
Waiting for others to follow.
I had to read it twice because I misinterpreted it the same way.
Their attitude changed towards open source because it doesn’t work!
That “it” could be interpreted either as ‘open source’ or ‘EEE’ from the previous sentence.
It’s helpful to understand what the rules and values of an instance is to evaluate if a duplicate community is worth subscribing to. There will be dominant communities that shake out. Subscribe to a bunch now and then reevaluate in a month.
When a union is at the bargaining table where does their power come from? Does their power come from who they send to negotiate?
Part of the decline in union power has been the idea that union leadership, who they are and their abilities to negotiate, is what wins good contracts. This idea justifies inflated salaries which then leads to union leadership living in a class above the rank amd file members they should represent. This entire concept is referred to as business unionism.
The truth is the power of the union at the negotiating table is their ability to withhold their labor. The rank and file members hold the power, the elected leader is just a representative. Closed door negotiating delegitimizes the true power of the union which is why business owners have sold you the concept that it delegitimizes the negotiations.
