When I learned that the creator of GIF pronounces it as JIF my world was turned upside down.

I just read an interesting research article from NASA that shows that carbon fiber survives reentry better than our previous scientific consensus claimed.
Some carbon fiber will burn up into carbon dioxide, but a good chunk of it will surprisingly survive reentry conditions. I think you are very right that it should be a better material to use for starlink.
I completely agree. I don’t understand why there are some self-described ML types that support modern Russia. It really makes no sense, as Russia’s economics and government has nothing to do with communism/socialism, or Marx, anymore.
I wonder how many Russian bots and agents have infiltrated those communities to spread that propaganda. FWIW, I am a member of a Socialist org, and there is nothing but hate for the Russian government amongst my comrades.
That’s fair and reasonable. I just think that the fact that alcohol use is so common, it makes it very unfair to pick on other drug users as if they are somehow worse or more prone to violence than alcoholics are.
I don’t think drug use by itself should be enough to take away your gun rights, personally. I do believe mental health reasons are acceptable, though, and if the drug a person is using is making them mentally unstable, then that should be the main reason their gun rights are removed.
I do think that keeping guns out of easy, legal, access of active drug abusers is appropriate. But as you say, without a conviction, the scope of those restrictions should be narrow and appeal-able.
Considering that the form 4473 that you have to sign to purchase a firearm makes no mention of alcohol, I think this is hypocritical, at best. What’s the difference between alcoholics owning a firearm, and heroin addicts owning a firearm? All I know is that I would be way less worried about the junkie gun owner than a raging alcoholic gun owner.
Its a dumb law, that was probably spawned from racism. Nobody should have their gun rights removed if they did not do or threaten anything violent.

It sounds like you are a Democratic Socialist from this tidbit.
I kind of feel the same way. I think the economic theory behind communism/socialism sounds much more beneficial towards our progress as a species and towards a more sustainable existence. I just don’t agree with the authoritarian methods of implementation. I think that if socialism is going to succeed, it will need to come about in a gradual democratic way.
Thanks for pointing this out. To some people, advocates for things like socialized healthcare are ‘tankies’. Its hard to tell what people mean anymore by it, and one persons tankie might be another’s centrist at this point.
.ml top level domains are very cheap, as well, so I think it was a happy coincidence for them to choose the .ml TLD.
They most definitely didn’t mind that .ml can stand for Marxist-Leninism, but I don’t think that was the only reason it was chosen.
I was going to say, isn’t the Kama Sutra a Hindu text? We have a bunch of sex positions that may have been lost to time if it weren’t for the Hindu religion.
The sweating and shaking is the parts I haven’t heard before, but as someone who has smoked a lot of weed and quit a few times, the problems with sleeping were definitely a thing for me. I’ve also worked in the industry for a while and have heard restlessness affecting other people who quit.
A lot of ant-renewable sentiment.
I’m just imagining they just leave sugary drinks and snacks laying out in the open.
From early contact in Central America between Spanish explorers and Aztec folk, local spicy peppers — primarily the jalapeño type — were noted as “chiles”. Other similar fruits were also tagged as “chiles” — a term which had the indigenous sense “hot-to-the-taste.”
‘Chile’ has been used for a lot longer than ‘chili’. If anyone is spelling it wrong, it is you, not them.
I mean, Waymo should definitely be held accountable and take responsibility for this accident, as it is something most human drivers would easily drive around. Them trying to blame it on other things is bullshit.
That being said, Waymos’ driverless cars are already much safer than the average human driver.
The alpha testing on public roads is a bit iffy, but idk how well they would be able to really QA test in a closed environment. Personally, I’m more concerned with sharing the road with many terrible human drivers that we already are forced to do. The faster we can get the driverless thing going, the better off we will be.
Slippi, in particular, has rollback netcode built on top of the emulator. It is way less laggy than Smash Ultimate and most other fighting games on the market, for that matter.
It is used for high level tournament play by players who have played the game in person since its release, with no complaints. It’s really impressive how smooth it is.
I think you are right about general netplay. Some emulators are better about it than others, and fighting games are of the type where the lag differences will be especially noticeable.
You can already do this with some N64 emulators with built in netplay like, Project64KSE. There is a small community dedicated to it with a website here.
Smash Bros Melee is much more popular to play online nowadays, and there is a great update for online play called Project Slippi. It works with the dolphin GameCube emulator and makes it very quick and easy to find games against similar skill level players. It also adds rollback netcode, stats, and other QOL features.
If Nintendo, themselves, put out an online Smash Melee remake, it would never be as close to good as Project Slippi already is.
Maybe the Tesla owners who still somehow worship or apologize for Musk, but most of them don’t deserve this at all. A lot of Tesla drivers dislike Musk and regret their purchases at this point.
They were the best electric car to buy for a long time. I don’t fault anyone for buying them in the past. If anyone buys one now, with all the information and other options we have, then maybe they’d deserve it.
As far as the murder part goes, dairy cows are mostly all killed very quickly after they stop producing milk. They are almost never allowed to live out their full lives. Especially, none of the cows in the larger dairy industry. The calves produced in the process are also just raised to be slaughtered. Besides the murder, The act of farming dairy products is also just cruel and inhumane in practice.
To produce milk, cows have to be kept in a pretty much constant state of pregnancy. Once the calves are born, they are immediately taken from the mother, and it is known that cows have maternal instincts that makes this painful for them. They have to be taken away, because otherwise they will drink the milk we are trying to steal from the process. Then the calf’s are raised in isolation for the first few months of their life on a milk substitute.
That is the bare minimum amount of cruelty needed to produce milk. Obviously, our modern capitalist driven dairy industry ramps up the cruelty in many other ways to increase productivity and efficiency.
Crazy. I had to look it up and I found some stuff, including this old web article from 2002 that talks about this cat. The cat’s name was, Miss Greeny, apparently.
There are multiple sources, but there is no wiki page and none of the sources seem well known, so I’m having a hard time figuring out if it’s legit, or just a really good hoax.

I had some extra ones laying around for you.
