I love how Republican brinksmanship leads to this absurd self-fulfilling prophecy that government doesn’t and can’t work. It turns out bad faith reaps bad outcomes.

Out of the top collections, the most common price for an NFT is now $5-$10.
Still overpriced!
I actually doubt it, but I can’t find any semi-recent Obama polls to say otherwise. Michelle Obama is polling great right now however.
Everything he says is projection, so it’s not very surprising.
Why did Hunter Biden do this??!
“We have a man who is totally corrupt and the worst president in the history of our country, who is cognitively impaired, in no condition to lead, and who is now in charge of dealing with Russia and possible nuclear war,” Trump said. “Just think of it. We would be in World War II very quickly if we’re going to be relying on this man.”
Obviously, Trump meant to say “World War III.” Insisting that we’re on the brink of another great war, and maybe even nuclear annihilation, has been part of his stump speech for months. But that isn’t the only line he flubbed. At another point in the speech, Trump seemed to mix up Biden and Barack Obama, suggesting he’s currently leading his predecessor in the 2024 polls.
Lol.
But this is DEFINITELY the end of his political career!
That’s it, I’m convinced – I definitely won’t vote for him now!
What an insane decision. Deciding you won’t host adult content on your platform is one thing. Saying “well you can’t talk about COVID here” is something else entirely.
I mean that’s the difference right there, right? If you quit your job, you’re homeless. If you don’t pay taxes, you’re arrested.
I get this sucks but you can quit your job and walk away from your employer, theoretically.
If the government decides to separate you from your possessions, your freedom, or your life, you can’t walk away from it and find a new government.
Your boss and your government are just totally different.
So you actually do acknowledge it’s cruel and harmful, you simply don’t care because you believe they deserve it?
You are an awful person.
Because their own choices matter — they went to that destination to be with their families and friends or to fill job opportunities they found. They are actual people with real feelings and ignoring their decisions to move them thousands of miles against their will as a political stunt is definitional cruelty.
If you don’t want immigrants in your town, you should move. Spoiler alert though, there are immigrants going to every town in the US. So you might have to leave the country and immigrate somewhere else.
Immigration and immigrants are the backbone of America and always have been. The way Republicans use them as political pawns is sick, xenophobic, and racist.
Immigration improves economies and jobs and the immigrant’s own lives. When handled in the right way (as New York is attempting to do) they can be a huge net positive on their communities and America at large.
Growing pains are inevitable. But if Republicans are too bigoted or stupid to take advantage of willing workers, Democrats entirely should.
How is it a strawman when it really is cruel and harmful?
It is about hurting both the migrants and Democrats. As is typical for Republicans, the cruelty is the point.
I don’t think most people would consider this slowly killing you, except in the most metaphorical sense.
This is true. On the other hand, it is the government’s job to uncover and persecute this. Obviously it could do a better job of it, but OSHA and the EPA actually do police employers for exactly these sorts of violations.
If you think your boss can just murder you I’m not sure what to tell you.
The power a government has over you, and the power your employer has over you, are totally different.
The government is legally authorized to separate you from your possessions, your freedom, and even your life in extremis. Your boss can’t do any of that and if they try the government should stop them.
Some people believe democracy is what prevents the government from punishing you capriciously, or allowing corporations to just do whatever they want to you. So they are willing to die to defend it.
I would say traditional liberal ideals are closer to what they’d want to defend than democracy itself, and I don’t 100% agree in either case, but I can see the point of view.
Antisemites of a feather flock together I guess.
