You’ve got a great point there, actually
That’s what I suspect, too, but I’m not entirely sure in my research so far. The question I am still unsure about: Is it as costly in running, or is the real costly part “just” the “training our model” part? I wondered that, because when I was messing around, things like generative text models could run on my potato PC with a bit of python scripting without too much issue, even if not ideally - as long as I had the already trained dataset downloaded.
Oh, wow, another book for the reading list :O
Am surprised that I genuinely hadn’t heard of him, just highlights the point the article is making.
I think it will hinge on one thing: Will AI provide an experience that is maybe worse, but still sufficient to keep the market share, at lower cost than putting in the proper effort? If so, it might still become a tragic “success”-story.
Ah, sad, thank you for researching! Here’s hoping it will come back in some form.
Fun fact: The designer almost went with “Cool Centrist Clicker”, they have a devlog about it.

Oooh, wait, that isn’t how it works in other programs? I really like that behaviour in GIMP to be perfectly honest, have used it in editing stuff deliberately.
I actually smiled and laughed when I first saw that it was a huge trend, considering all the gary’s mod and SFM stuff, especially TF2 videos, I adored myself as a teen/young adult. Made me feel less old seeing that there’s still life in the meme format.
I grew up in the 90’s wallpapers aren’t supposed to be fun
I, and my child self fooling around in Windows 3.11 back in the day, beg to differ.
Hey, just be glad I changed it from asdf_test_3, okay?
While the incident of the violence itself could have happened with the deputy unaware of brutalising a trans man, with the article not showing indications of this being the primary motivation, his treatment while in custody clearly shows further relevant mistreatment.
To play devil’s advocate, it is perfectly possible that person genuinely saw it as that. Eyewitnesses in chaotic situations are inherently untrustworthy and prone to misinterpret things and even create false memories when questioned. Especially if it was someone that, naively, still trusted in cops for some reason, it’s easy for the mind to create some assumed aggression by the victim, because only that way their worldview can remain intact (“a police officer wouldn’t have been that brutal without good cause” as an assumption, basically.)
Still, I agree, it is wild. Especially since even the bastard assaulting the driver here didn’t claim that. And I agree, it is also very much possible it was an overzealous fascist that just wanted to cover for the cops in a way more zealous than the cops themselves by consciously lying.
It’s pretty telling a platform like YouTube really only gets fully enjoyable with an adblocker, sponsorblock and this. I wish PeerTube had a lot of good creators, but last time I checked (years ago, admittedly) it was mostly conspiracy theorists and cryptobros.
Thanks for the offer, but for the proper effect you’d have to fall in love with me for a few years, then break up with me, with me getting weirdly clingy and longing in the following “trying to be friends” phase, with me slowly realizing what a bad influence I had been in your life and crashing into the realization that it was pure hubris of me to think I could be deserving of love and in a healthy relationship to begin with. That sort of messed-upness doesn’t come that easy.
I had conversations with my ex on there so on the one hand, it is good I can’t return any more to torture myself with reminders of what a piece of shit I am, but on the other hand my psyche irrationally feels despair because it cannot return to torture myself with reminders of what a piece of shit I am
Really, the big problem are the instability from ripple effects. How will the world react to massive migrant crises and new, more intense conflict? To increasing economic recessions and the breaking away of old privileges? All things we are already seeing and that won’t go away anytime soon.
Now, total extinction of the species, yeah, that is very unlikely, unless something really unexpected happens. But throwing us potentially back centuries in progress, and killing a majority of people? A nuclear exchange from escalating tensions could create something like that.
