Thank you, I’m happy seeing upvote sorting being updated soon
Also I wouldn’t be surprised if the memory or something is killing my app
I’m using a Moto G Stylus 2023 with 6gb of ram, running android 14, security patch: UITGNS34.42-86-2-16
There’s typically 2 gigs of ram free, tho, but I’m gonna try some stuff like prioritizing the app in the settings and locking it to run in the background
Thank you again!
Very much same
I feel like this is probably the biggest problem with mastodon after the on-boarding. Not only does someone actually need to understand instances and put in more effort to sign up, when they do there’s like absolutely no good way to find new stuff, it’s all just basically random
I understand the “no algorithm” stance on things but jesus would it be too much to let me sort by top of the day? I want to see what people are talking about, what’s going on, not just what ever happened to be posted in the latest minute.
This is a problem I have with a bunch of other fediverse app (Pixelfed & Loops primarily) and it seriously bothers me that there isn’t any real option to sort anything except reverse chronologically, and the ability to do so is the only reason I keep coming back to Lemmy over all of the rest of fediverse fr
This is exactly why I just could not get into mastodon, and probably Twitter-likes in general
There’s no way, atleast at the time, to sort by top of the day. No way to see what was trending across the larger fediverse, no real way to find new and interesting things every hour on the hour
Lemmy is thankfully significantly better with this, and it’s honestly become my go-to social app now
The embed on my client only gave me the middle 2 panels for context and honestly still funny

Me: “Nuh-uh”
AI: “Correct”
IMO I’d call “AI Artists” a type of Art Director, since they themselves don’t make the art but instead direct and dictate what exactly they want, and if the result is different they tweak their wording to direct the art into a different direction
Art Directing, whether for a human or a machine or otherwise, is still a skill itself and still has to be learned to get good results, but it’s distinctly different from making the art yourself so I wouldn’t call them “Artists” outright
Honestly the occasional reposted tik tok is something I really miss from reddit, in the right community scrolling through the top of the week was an absolute blast!
I’m really glad to see some short form video fedi service joining the fediverse, hopefully it pans out well and gets enough users to have consistent content!
“Pixelfed”, “sup.”, “Loops” honestly Pixelfed is like the only fediverse brand with moderately modern naming schemes, like I could imagine Loops and sup gaining actually traction outside of Linux folks, would honestly be a huge win for fedi

I don’t understand why I get zero choice
Absolutely agree, I use to get excited for new updates to anything, cuz like “yay new things” or “old things but less buggy”
But recently I’ve been absolutely sulking over the modern software updating paradigm of shipping perfectly fine updates with completely useless UI changes that absolutely nobody wanted so tech companies can justify having an in-house UI team
Like my phone, on Android 11 I set the custom color to a really nice red color, i matched it to my wallpaper and everything, I loved it
And then Android 12 hits, and that lovely red gets replaced with some bologna enthusiast’s spamcore aesthetic
I’m sorry, Material “You”?. Nah this is Material Somebody Else fr
And I can’t do anything to change the colors of my own phone
I hate being a slave to UI teams, let me change the colors atleast, damnit
I am so close to just rooting my phone ngl
Yeah, that’s what I’m getting at, proprietary software on Linux is just a step forward towards a fully FOSS future
For the most part, there aren’t many professional fields that have a good FOSS option, so in the meantime their only option is to keep using the industry standard until a good alternative matures like Blender has
At the very least, people would have the freedom to not use microsoft or apple while still working professionally in their respective industry, so that’s more free overall
Why not both? I don’t see how proprietary software on Linux will slow down FOSS at all, and it’ll only bring more users to Linux who otherwise have to use windows for their software, so overall more FOSS users in the community
And programs like Blender have already matured to a professional level, so I’m pretty optimistic that other FOSS apps will eventually follow, too

Honestly moving to clangd has got to be the single best thing I’ve done in C++, it’s cross platform and I’ve found it to be significantly faster, more reliable, and more featureful than Microsoft’s C++ plugin by a long shot
