For some people, the universe may be one big computer. But for others, a big computer is their universe.
Never had an issue with that… as long as I was using Linux in English. Any other language? Your file names and settings that assume English are now fucked. And don’t even try typing in a non-Latin alphabet.
I’m not gonna bother looking it up cuz I’m at work but usually sites hosting user generated content don’t claim ownership, merely a non-exclusive royalty free license. If they did claim ownership, they’d be on the hook for a looooot of copyright violations. Which is why they don’t do it.
Anything that can be salvaged should be copied onto the fediverse but good work!
Reddit is a read-only site for me now, and only when I’m searching for something specific. All my “forum browsing” time goes to Lemmy now. Can’t wait until I can unfollow the last few Twitter-only accounts (public transit alert accounts) so I can complete my migration to Mastodon.
The author starts with the assumption that the for-profit social media apps suddenly turned it shit but has some sort of unique benefits that the fediverse lacks. Actually, the design of for-profit social media apps has ALWAYS led to shitty experiences, similar to how most email traffic is spam. The fact that the fediverse doesn’t replicate the experience of for-profit social media apps IS THE POINT and the author either missed it or is a shill.
