Musk as a complete idiot, but gotta say that’s savvy. You don’t have to be smart to be ruthless.

You got downvotes and I don’t know if you also got a rebutall, but here is a simple one: This seems to be an extremely naive take on the situation and all over the fediverse you can find detailed write ups of why taking a “wait and see” approach could prove disastrous for the entire experiment, but I’m not going to do your homework for you. I just wanted to give you some idea of why your take isn’t very popular.
Takes like the one you are responding to me, and other common stances shared since the news of Threads hit the fediverse, can’t help but remind me of the cautionary tale of the turtle and the scorpion (I think it was). The corporation is going to attack and kill the smaller entity, because that is its nature, just like the Scorpion riding on the turtle’s back did. Let’s not be the turtle.
You nailed it. One of the saddest things ever to me is that capitalism and those who are Lord’s within the system have even managed to commodity socialization, which is a core aspect of the human condition. Through all of their fuckery over the years, they’ve convinced us all that financial incentive and “internet clout” are the sole motivators for socializing and like you said, creating things. Any artist of any medium knows that is bunk, but we forget anyway.
This post had made me choose this instance as my home.
I concur. It’s quite the pun.
Ad hominem has no place here man. Attack the argument not the person.
That is all well and good except for the whole EEE inevitability. If instances don’t defederate and Meta gets it’s hooks in it might be too late.
That’s what I am having to do too and thought I was just missing something, but that makes sense since everything is in flux and that might not be the greatest priority since the exodus is ongoing and stability/keeping up with updates is way more important.
Replace Boost with BaconReader, and that was me except I saw rumblings of it before the API change and went ahead and made the move because fuck unfettered capitalism. Even if this doesn’t last, we tried and made a stand and can enjoy the results while it lasts.
I wonder why the BBC would do that? It couldn’t be that they have a vested interest or anything…
The user below failed to mention Meta is indirectly responsible for an actual Genocide through their purposeful lack of oversight and endless desire for engagement at no matter the cost.
Exploding heads? I’m in GA, but also don’t care about local stuff because I live in south. I just go for stuff outside that scope for a broader sense of what’s going on.
Can you actually have capitalism without the profit motive? I am skeptical.
Haha yeah this reminds me of the A.I super computer in China that was dismantling the idea that the CCP is a good idea, and giving democracy a glowup in the process. I heard that they shut that whole thing down after that, but this is all hearsay.
