I am really surprised that people believe one person will change whole course of US military complex.

If anything they will put someone who is representing their position, not the other way around.

Things are determined, this is just people choosing PR person.

While I understand someone not agreeing with the way some instance or community is managed, I see value in different opinions.

Lemmy is great for exactly this purpose, we can have different instances and are able to be exposed to different ideas.

I can not understand the need of some people to limit their exposure to different ideas.

But that is always happening. Software that now can be built by two programers needed IBM few decades ago, just because of hardware, languages, available libraries and shared knowledge.

But we still have so many “app ideas” that there is more work to be done. I would be happy to have AI write all those apps that I need and have no time or money to make them.

My conclusion is that it is only about money and economy. We are in unofficial recession so everyone is cutting costs, as soon as money comes back we will go back into bulking/exploration phase.

If it wasn’t from Apple, I would be all over it. They basically took different languages and most of C++ devs made fastest advance in Swift. Rust I do like and support, but is too confusing for amout of free time I have.

Every social media has the same problem, reddit is on one side, twitter on the other, facebook is filtering by their own goals.

People here are just a bit different angle. But each instance is a little different, lemmy.world is more reddit like, lemmy.ml is leftist, hexbear is… something too, there are probably some right wing instances. Much more diverse than other networks and I enjoy seeing all those different point of views.

This is current problem in society that we don’t tolerate different opinion.

We learned to hate “algorithm” but those can actually be good if creator wants to help us insted of manipulate us.

Without a friendly algorithm to help us, we have no chance in finding our way around all this information around us.

I personally never go around paywalls, if someone doesn’t want me to read their article I will not do it.

But… they do push their content to search engines and waste my time with something I can not access. My time also costs money.

Than there is problem with I don’t trust media will write the truth anyway, so giving them few bucks will probably not change that. But it is important for us to know what other people know.

Now we came to sharing knowledge, like we would before when newspapers were printed on paper - I could give it or show it to a friend or neighbor. Or go to a library and read it.

While this is outside of our current discussion, they need to find better model.

If it is a daily newspaper, maybe paywal new articles and release after sone reasonable time (like a week, or month… or a year).

I like your idea of separating feeds, to keep paywalled content out of my feed.

I also don’t want apple near it, but Andreas learned browser development on Safari and with looking for “popular enought” memory safe language it is rust vs swift and just by looking at the code becomes obvious how easier Swift is to pick up. Especially for someone comming from C++.

It actually exists and is being developed for the last three yeras. But you have to compile it by youself. Just a way to prevent people from having expectations, but a lot of modern sites are working in it. Some errors, a bit slow, but they have rendering engine, css parser, js implementation and are working closely with w3c - they have found some bugs in the standard since they are implementing it directly.

Great and useful project, I don’t know if it will become real competition to firefox and chrome, but I guess it will get traction. A lot of people want new browser, some of them have money.

People will take it, there is no other option and G is working hard not to allow another video platform.

Problem is ads they are playing are awful and loud. We will make way to silent them and black them out, it is not hard.

Bigger problem is content they are pushing is getting bad and is pushing creators into burnout. And I don’t want to see videos companies are creating, but want individual contributions.

It still costs money for hardware and hosting. Scraping web and training AI ain’t cheap.

I think they are selling hardware on reduced price so they can make money on cloud services. And by spying and selling customer data.

The problem is that investors want to invest in data collection, not in making new hardware and service.

First thought is that you need to do that research aa soon as you move to the new house, change your insurance or job.

Second is obvious, strange county you have over there. But I guess most of the people are satisfied with that, as with paying for school.

While being right about crypto being meaningless for some people (I guess there are people valuing hope in decentralized monetary system, even if it is misplaced.), you failed to mention that most of other industries are equally meaningless and good part of them are even harmful: fashion, fast food, industrial food, banking - in a way we have it, cars in current form(no need for this huge tanks)…

In comparation crypto is just wasteful and isn’t harming anyone.
