  • I mean, how about my boring example from work the other day? I wanted to double check whether priority mail had guaranteed delivery timeframes before telling a customer that they did not and if she needed something by a specific day she should use UPS. When I searched “is priority mail delivery date guaranteed”, the first real answer, from USPS’s website, was a resounding no, just like I thought. Guess what Google’s AI told me? “Priority mail is a guaranteed service, so you can choose it knowing that your package will be delivered on the projected date.”

It’s fucking stupid. It’s wrong. It should not be at the top of search results.

  • They do have a say in whether or not they want to raise it. No one is demanding that they be active and attentive parents. They’re just being told that they need to help financially support the child that they had an active hand in creating.

Until UBI and true test tube births are a thing, pregnancy will always put all of the risk on the birth giver. This is inherently unfair. In order to even out that risk, the non-birthing parent should be required to support the child to a minimum level.

Granted, UBI and universal support would entirely negate the need for this discussion and it’s what we should be working towards in the long run, but we can’t just… not support the kids in the mean time.

  • I dunno, I feel like it’s mostly just people being people. We have a truck and a sporty little hatchback and people are just as apt to drive like assholes around both cars, despite my husband and I both also being the “drive just enough above the speed limit that we probably won’t get a ticket” drivers, and otherwise adhering almost exactly to road laws the way only mildly obsessive neurodivergents can. I think people either just don’t know road laws or don’t care about them and get pissed when other people do and “impede” their oh-so-important trip.

  • You know, as jaded as I am, it still saddens me to see gen z being just as jaded. I’m going to try a different tack, though I probably won’t change your mind.

Biden is a dusty old milquetoast imperialist fucktwat. No arguments on that front. However, due to the way our electoral system works, 3rd parties cannot currently be viable at a national level because you and I will never, ever be able to convince 50%+ of the population to vote outside the D/R binary. It is an unfortunate reality that every vote not explicitly for Biden is a vote that will help Trump in the end.

What needs to happen, realistically, is that we defeat Trump, buy ourselves 4 more years of slow decline rather than complete collapse, and work at a local level to grow support for some form of ranked voting before 2028. Now, granted, that’s been the goal of most pacifist leftists for years now and it hasn’t happened. However, keep in mind that even if Trump is voted in and we see a fascist collapse, revolution probably just… won’t happen. Not in America. Not in our lifetimes. Not in enough force to change anything. And if revolution doesn’t happen and you’re now living in a full-on fascist hellscape, how will you get out? Do you have a plan? Is it feasible? Even if it’s feasible now, will it remain so in two years?

I dunno. I have very little hope at this point, and maybe the “burn it down” zoomers are right. Maybe you all and gen alpha have enough energy to overcome the lethargic despair and bitterness that has suffused us older folks. All I know is that I’m too fucking tired to revolt after the train crash, so I’ll try my best to stop the train instead and work to build new tracks going the other direction. It’d be nice to have a little help but… Honestly I don’t blame you if you just want to see it crash at this point.

Wow, writing that all out just made me even more depressed 🥲
