My senior class in high school, the French and History teachers got together to plan a senior trip to Canada post-graduation, with stops in Montreal and Quebec. They let us have beers (on our own dime) if we wanted since the drinking age up there was 18, and one of my history teachers even offered a few of us Cuban cigars the last night of the trip since there was no embargo in Canada but we couldn’t cross back into the US with them. Was a pretty good time.

We were warned the Quebecois could be kinda douchey to non-native speakers, but I found the whole trip was pretty chill, and as long as you were at least trying to speak French to them, they were more than accommodating for directions and help. Was a really memorable trip, 20+ years later still a very fond memory. Good teachers are great.

  • DNS is often misconfigured.

On the linux side of things, people like to manually edit /etc/resolv.conf when it’s actually a symlink and changes to it don’t persist on boot (the real file location varies, but it’s usually in something like /etc/system/resolve). And forget bind9, if it’s not MS DNS it’s not DNS to some folks.

On the Windows side, people love to ignore that reverse DNS exists, even though so many things use it. They also freaking love CNAME aliases and break stuff in interesting ways (for example, a “load balanced” configuration that’s all just the first node acting as all three nodes of a cluster or pool).

Many people only know enough DNS to be dangerous and come up with really jank workarounds to get things running because they don’t understand the proper solutions.

  • I mean she’s not dem leader anymore. I know she still represents CA as dean . I just find it strange I’ve seen so many articles mentioning her as though she’s still in charge.

Edit - and now the recent articles claiming Obama wants Biden to step down too, which is supposedly conjecture and hearsay. It all reads like a hit campaign of known democratic leadership names, and it seems really odd how little coverage there is of the various democratic representatives in full support of Biden.

Honestly Arch-based is a good choice, but straight up Arch for a newbie? Nah.

I’m running EndeavorOS with KDE and it’s been solid for gaming. A few bugs, but mostly minor, like it picked the wrong default NIC driver (but still worked) and SMB shares wouldn’t auto mount recently until an update a week or two ago.

My main PC for non-gaming runs Manjaro. I know there are haters about it, but it’s been a solid distro for general use, and I’ve encountered no issues to speak of.
