I tried to use gnunet multiple times over the years. It always had wierd routing problems, the worst was their filesharing, it literally never worked. You cant find files that are definitely on the network, and if by some miracle you do find something, it fails to download it. 20 years of development and its an unfinished buggy mess. I hope they finally fix it sometime, cause its a really great idea, just executed horribly.
I have many DE’s installed right now and I never encountered any problems because of it, these issues sound really bizarre. With the cinnamon thing it sounds like cinnamon mangles something while running, but you would still have this problem if you only ever installed cinnamon, so… ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯

I am sceptical of the idea. If every post had a specific license, it would be a minefield to federate or host, because every post could potentially forbid sharing it, or have other stipulations.
Most posts and comments are not copyrightable anyway. A few sentences are not enough to count as a “creative work”. It would need to be your entire posting history, and even then its dubious if that counts as one work.
I propose instead that we do it like wikipedia and others, and that the server as a whole has a license.

yeah, I wrote a “conspiracy theory” of sorts as a comment a few months ago about that as the situation developed. Turns out it was true, microsoft used OpenAI’s CEO to remove critical board members, so they get control over the non-profit part of the company that controls the patents/software.
I think it will be released pre-trained if they are forced to make it open source, otherwise they are not actually releasing chatgpt/dall-e, just the underlying technology they used to make it. No idea however if musks lawyers know that.
it wouldnt be useless, most “open source” models work like this. But yeah, having access to the dataset is very important, and in my opinion open source licenses requires its inclusion. However, no legal battles have been fought over that fact yet…

Hmm, i don’t entirely understand your point. Buyers are private using Taler, and you can’t find out who bought something. You cant trace a coin to its owner. And last I checked, businesses dont pay in cash, it goes through a bank, so the privacy level doesn’t change compared to what we do today.
True. However, I think its unreasonable to demand a digital euro that is also private for businesses, as the only benefit from that would be enabling tax evasion and selling illegal goods. There are differences between physical anonymous payments and online anonymous payments. The problem is scale and reach. You cant just send millions of euro in cash to someone in a different country, you can with online payments. That allows for money laundering and illegal markets at a scale never seen before.
So yes, it will be different than cash, but your identity cant be traced, so id call it a worthy replacement.

For example GNU Taler could be used for the digital euro. Its anonymous for the buyer, backed by banks and traditional banking infrastructure and fast.

Sure. There are benefits to devs without degrees, as they usually start working earlier in their lives so they have more work experience. And hard screening for a degree is probably not helpful anyway, there are other ways to become a proficient developer. You can read about the fundamentals without ever going to a class about it!
Ive heard from quite a few developers that people without degrees in CS program differently than with a degree. CS teaches the theoretical fundamentals that you could go your entire life without knowing and still perform well in a job, but they do help when e.g. building novel solutions, reframing problems into more general problems that were solved 40 years ago, and getting an overview of how everything works can prevent reinventing the wheel.
