I am a man, I identity as a man. However, if I were to Identify as Nonbinary, that would need to pass - I might internally and externally be male, but if I say I don’t identify with being male - it’s sexist to deny me the right to identify that way - because identifying that way is not tied to a specific thing you do.
Thing is, the vaccine doesn’t protect you against infecting other people. This is a known fact, and common for vaccines. That is not the point of a vaccine. A vaccine prevents YOU from being majorly infected - in the way that your body can quickly deal with the infection, because it’s used to it. It doesn’t magically make you immune, and not able to infect anyone.
It’s not the same disease.
It’s the same kind of disease - an endemic seasonal virus.

Any viral disease can potentially turn into a ‘long’ disease. Long covid is just a meme at this point with a lot of people ‘having’ it with some unclear issues, and only a small subset of them actually having verifiable issues.

I do agree that there are people that actually get terrible symptoms over a long while.
I got the first few covid vaccines because you know, whatever. But I never got a flu shot, and will not really be taking covid shots now, unless we get in another pickle like we did before.
It’s endemic, covid is here to stay. Being vaccinated doesn’t make you totally sterile to the virus, you can still carry it and infect others.
That’s also the way it’s handled by my country (and has been for as long as I have been alive, for the flu) - Switzerland. People at risk get vaccinated, the general public usually doesn’t

Same thing happened to phones, and then high end phones got expensive as fuck. I mean I had a Galaxy note 2 I bought for 400 bucks back in the day and that was already expensive.
You can’t really compare an 8800gt to a 1070 to a 4080.
8800gt was just another era, the 1070 is the 70 series from a time where they had the ti and the titan, and the 4080 is the top gpu other than the 4090.
If you wanted to compare to the 10 series, a better match for the 4080 would be the 1080ti, which I own, and paid like 750 for back in 2017.
Sure, they’re on the money grabbing train now, and the 4080 should realistically be around 20% cheaper - around 800 bucks, to be fair.
Thing is though, if you just want gaming, a 4070 or 4060 is enough. They did gimp the VRAM though, which is not too great. If those cards came standard with 16gb of VRAM, they’d be all good.
If you think a block of code needs a comment, turn it into a method and give it a proper name instead.
Really depends. Yes, if someone doesn’t get what’s wrong with this statement, they should. But you shouldn’t wrap something in a method all the time just because. Sure, maybe you can make it an inline method, but usually, a method call takes time, and while it’s not a lot of time, in constrained or complex system that can accumulate. A lot. Sure, the compiler might optimize stuff away, but don’t just go blindly trusting your compiler.
Sure, a method call for something that gets called once a second is not a problem. But when you suddenly have thousands and thousands of method calls when say, you click a button, which calls method x which calls method x1 which calls y1 and y2 which call z1-10 and so on, then the method calls can suddenly turn into a problem.
Maybe not on a fast, modern device, but on an older or more constrained device. If your code never runs on there, sure, don’t bother.

But then again, it’s a fairly large organization vpn’d up over multiple locations, with server farms in different VLANs and so on, so the network we usually access when working are in a different subnet.
I do know what you mean though - it really depends on what the company does. Prior, I worked at a company that developed and manufactured hardware cryptography devices - I learned proper security procedures there :) our ‘actual work computers’ weren’t even connected to the Internet, and the unmanaged laptops accessed the same WiFi guests would access that, well, only went to the Internet. Just wpa2.
IT specifically has an option for unmanaged devices, exactly for developers like me :)

Depends on your work. I agree with you, but for example my work is different.
Yes, we have managed devices as well, but my department specifically went for unmanaged devices. Just plain old laptops. Install whatever OS you want, do whatever you want. I only have the base windows install on there for some compatibility reasons, I mostly just use PopOS.
And we’re also explicitly allowed to browse private content - as long as the work gets done and we stay in budget, do whatever.

Your calculations don’t hold up. If you get a driver from a 25/75 pool, you are 25 or 75 percent likely to get that gender as your driver, no matter your own gender. So this 0.5 times is not needed.
