Oh no public money now has to be used to do all those things Disney paid for, leading to higher taxes. Yeah we showed them.

10 years last July almost 400k karma. I’d like to say I left for all sorts of noble reasons to do with awards or API, but mostly I just left because Lemmy is a nicer space to hang out in and reminds me of my early days on the internet with BBSs and the like. On Reddit as an older woman we are constantly made aware it’s not a space where we are really wanted, though there are a lot more of us on there in our own little niches than I think a lot of younger male users realise. So I’m here hoping Lemmy will continue to feel more open to everyone, and if it doesn’t hell I’ll start a server for us old farts.
I’m leaning into the theory it’s someone in power in Saudi Arabia. A member of their royal family is heavily invested in Twitter, owns shares and fronted Elon a big chunk of money for Twitter and they would surely like to crack down on social media in pretty much every middle eastern country, what with those pesky women protesting by not wearing their hijabs and protests and riots happening over there in the past decade. The first thing they do when there is trouble is shut down twitter, shutting it down permanently makes things easier for them.
I’m waiting for it to start
Oh not complaining he’s helping people, which is way more than most Youtubers do so I have no complaints if he gets rich doing it.
They’ve also given everyone with an instagram account a Threads account, so they’re going to be over run with fitness gurus and diet tea selling vegans any minute now.
You need to know which way the shit is floating so you can avoid it.
It would provide more insight than comparing their current figures. When Uber started, if you compared the number of people that got taxis in those first months to Ubers numbers you’d have bet on Uber to be out of business in months.
How many did they have when they were the age Lemmy is now?
But you can’t close your threads account without closing your instagram account.
Giving away money so he can monetise the videos and make more money, which he gives away, monetising those videos to make even more money. The guy has literally found a way to print money.
There are a many people over the age of 30 on Reddit as under. People like us make up 50% of reddit users.
Preaching is the assumption others want to hear about your religion. It’s a bit like being a Magic the Gathering Fan boy. You’re going to tell everyone about it even though their eyes are glazed over and they have tried to change the subject 3 times in the past 5 minutes. Live a life that makes people go, hey why are you so kind and generous and loving I want to know about that, then answer their questions, otherwise you’re just another boring fanboi prattling on.
Someone owes some Russian & Middle Eastern Oligarchs a lot of money for his Twitter buying fiasco. Same as Trump did for his fiascos. The business model is just them doing what they were told to do. In this case take down social media.
The average person it’s fine, it’s when they’re in a group and you get the average of the average people that things get dumb.

He was born rich, bought businesses where other people had done all the heavy thinking already and marketed himself well. Like Trump is a poor persons idea of a rich man, Elon is a dumb person’s idea of a smart person.

Talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire.
Give them time to lobby and get a friendlier judge and try again.
