If you are using old reddit, might I suggest Old Lander script via Tampermonkey / Greasemonkey ? It made old reddit terrific for me (terrific = user friendly beyond any app)
It’s not inbuilt in the TamperMonkey, but if you have TM installed in your browser (I use firefox) - then you can head to GitHub and install the js from there (scroll to the bottom of the GitHub page)
And worse of all, using the official Reddit client… ugh…

I personally use rdx.overdevs.com. It’s UI is absolutely fantastic. It’s read-only, but that’s perfect because I’ve resolved to never post there again
If you like read-only, can I recommend Stealth?

Yes, you can subscribe to subs but the process is a little painful. Especially if you have a bunch. And there’s no backup option that I can tell.
Can install via F-Droid or Obtanium. It’s also really nice-looking.
