Death is going to have to walk down a reeeeally long Hallway before they get to Windows.
I’m not even sure if Linux has caught up to Windows XP on Steam…
It probably has. XP usage was almost entirely pirated copies in China. Then PUBG came out and the entire country upgraded to pirated copies of Windows 7 to play it because XP wasn’t supported.
Sooner than later it’ll be pirated copies of Windows 10. And the cycle keeps repeating.
You dont even have to pirate windows anymore You can literally download it for free from their website
Yep, as of Windows 10 there’s no longer a 30-day activation timer. You can run Windows for free indefinitely with only a couple minor inconveniences like the inability to change the desktop background.
You could always download it for free.
Makes sense
Windows 8 and below is less than Linux: https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/directx/
not in the delusional land of OP
Even in their own meme it says “spikes to nearly 2%”
I am an avid Linux user and I gotta say, the linux community’s main issue is that they are like entirely incapable of understanding how a non-techie user works. the only way Linux kills windows, is if someone comes out with an entirely locked down distro, that “just works” and is very hard to fuck up anything on it, so basically a low cost Mac Os.
Closest right now is probably elementaryOS
I love my Linux but this is absolutely delusional.
Absolutely.
But it is interesting, that a proper Linux device like the Steam Deck can be that successful, despite relatively weak game support.
That could lead to more developer interest in more portable or at least more “proton-ready” games, which in turn could make Linux a much more attractive choice for many regular folks.
5 years later, Godemperor Stallmann will take power.
Windows? Yeah aint gonna happen so soon…
…ever
It’s the same as the cyber truck bro, it’s gonna overtake the F150!
It’s hilarious that that Musk took so goddamn long to release the Cybertruck that half the people who were down for the cyberpunk road warrior look instead realized he was the evil corpro overlord.
Just gotta keep knocking!
Not entirely, but a lot of people won’t be up for having their OS load from a cloud every boot, and that’s where MS is currently talking about taking the next version of Windows. I know a lot of people who won’t pay for a monthly sub to their OS or want to have internet charges for downloading a cloud OS either. That will be a breaking point for a lot of people once the last “real Windows” OSes drop off of support.
That or people will just keep reviving XP.
They will keep reviving XP.
The online OS is only a different version of win 11
Is the first door SYSV, CP/M, TempleOS, what?
MS-DOS?
Maybe console, idk, you cant get steam on console though
Steam Machines
But the Steam Deck is the entire reason why Linux use on steam is spiking…
Steam deck isn’t Steam Machines. They are the bloody corpse that the Steam Deck emerged out of.
Corporate unix
Playstation is using a FreeBSD-based kernel, so technically Unix is the king of gaming.
Can we finally get Steam on TempleOS?
Yes
Gnu/hurd maybe???
Linux is awesome and my go-to, but let’s not get carried away here.
First door should be MINIX
Also all the *BSD
Come and get me, BSD folks!
Oof, parricide.
Is it finally the year of the linux desktop?
This is Steam Deck though, isn’t it? 😂
As far as I know, but facts or statistics have never stopped this prediction from being made before 😂
Yup, and the majority of users will likely barely (or never) leave the Steam Deck interface.
There was guy who streamed playing game on Steam Deck from edge of cliff. He often switched to OBS.
Here is an alternative Piped link(s): https://piped.video/live/W3Mjj1PQmRY
Piped is a privacy-respecting open-source alternative frontend to YouTube.
I’m open-source, check me out at GitHub.
Oh, I’m not saying that nobody leaves the Steam interface. Plenty of people use emulators outside of it, etc. I’ve used it enough that I may become a genuine Linux convert at some point.
Yes probably, but I don’t see why that would make a difference. Steam Deck is IMO an expression of the strength of Linux.
Contrary to Android, Steam Deck is a proper Gnu/Linux desktop OS based on Arch AFAIK.
Seems like we’re saying the same thing.
Every year is the year of the Linux desktop!
Last year, this year, next year, 2077, all the year of the Linux desktop!
even 2038?
No. That’s the year of Unix
Next Era
What was behind the first door?
TempleOS
I cackled
Dignity.
spoiler
your mom
I mean, there are still legit usages for computers besides gaming…
but aside from that, yes… please let’s make linux the default platform for gaming. Please. It shouldn’t be that hard, it’s just gestures at everything
What was in the first room?
Sadly enough, BSD.
DOS
Depecrated windows XP lol
Bell Labs, Unix, Plan 9
GNU Hurd
Who puts windows on their front door?
People who’d like to know when Death comes knocking
Repost this with the first door cropped
I think Tux is just bloodthirsty. Blood to the blood god!
I’ll just leave this here… https://kbin.social/m/linuxmemes@lemmy.world/t/288895/Victory
why does jebora open an lemmy link in a browser …
Jerboa can’t open that link because that site is running Kbin (another federated news aggregator software) and not Lemmy
a sorry for being dumb ^^
Noooo not dumb at all lol, easy mistake to make looking at the link
Lol to hard at this, must be the weed.
first door is unix
