I love answering questions from time to time, so I have frequented AskReddit and TooAfraidToAsk.
AskReddit is full of repeated questions that offer nothing new of value for knowledge or even entertainment. You see a question on Hot and you just know what the responses will be, everytime.
TooAfraidToAsk is even more insulting in the sense that no question there is anything anyone is afraid to ask. More like, ‘what can I ask that skirts the boundary of getting banned?’ kind of questions. Lots of sexual based ones, lots of baiting ones and ones that just kills braincells to even read. The mods are sadly complacent in the practice.
Every popular sub on Reddit is the same four questions or topics posted over and over again. It is like users are unable to read any previous posts. I’ve seen old time users writing basically the same comment on multiple posts for years, and then new people would come and ask the same bloody question again. This convinced me to never post anything of value on Reddit. It just drowns in a sea of comments and will never be read again.
It depends on the subreddit but often this is encouraged by locking threads after a certain amount of time, meaning new comments are no longer possible. What’s more is that serving ads is a core component of Reddit’s business model and this works best if there is a constant stream of “new content” that can be injected with different ads according to the sponsor of the day.
