Shola’s DNA samples helped researchers decipher a new variant of progressive retinal atrophy. Now, other dogs can be checked for the gene that causes the blindness condition before being used for breeding. She’s also really cute.

    I know it’s because she’s blind, but those white eyes look like they’re staring right into my soul.

      Fortunately, dogs rely on scent and hearing as well as vision. Tragic she lost her vision, but she’ll probably prefer that to losing olfactory senses, to a dog that’s like when we lose both of our hands.
