It hasn’t been for a long time. SCOTUS already declared Trump king, and Congress has completely abdicated its constitutional role to remove lawless presidents.

Trump is the most obvious symptom, but the underlying cancer is a deep-seated streak of fascination with authoritarianism in this country.

It’s easy to forget this, since the United States ultimately sided against the Axis powers in WWII, but there has always been a sizeable contingent of full-throated fascism supporters in this country.

They’ve spent decades honing their messaging and figuring out how to break the minds of Americans, and Trump is the culmination of that project.

You mean the capitalists spent decades breaking the minds of Americans so they could break the shackles of prosocial regulation and loot the wreckage.

The Reagan/Welch capitalist jihad, removing what little restrictions big corpo had while getting their former opposition on the take leaving the people with NO VOTE on the economy rigged against them, only the social issue symptoms stoked to keep us divided so we don’t rise up, while destroying education and the commons to keep us stupid and get tax breaks did this.

We are going to collapse, and I’ll be damned if I’m not going to go down with this ship reminding everyone I can it was the capitalists that did this by promising the nation of imbeciles they made they’d be the beneficiaries living large on the backs of their exploitated neighbors so long as they vote to hurt their exploitated neighbors. Twas the celebration of greed and “individualism” aka learned sociopathy that killed this beast.

Robber barons/profiteers should never have been allowed to leave their homes without having rotten fruit pelted at them for their cruel, antisocial behaviors. Their own victims look to them for wisdom, tune into their reality shows and economic forecasts, and praise them as… 🤮… “job creators,” it’s pathetic to see, especially here at the end.

This country was destroyed half a century ago. Citizens United drove that reality home for anyone with 2+ brain cells to rub together that the oligarchs had not yet destroyed, Trump (and his billionaire cadre) is just a vulture feasting on its well rotted corpse.

People forget we were neutral during the start of WW2 and a lot of Americans supported Germany. We also had consecration camps for Asian Americans along with a history of racism against almost every one, including other white races.

Indeed. We’ve forgotten our history on many levels, and as such, we’re looking pretty well doomed to repeat it.

Toward the end of his speech, Trump quoted an unlikely source.

“Etched onto the walls of this building are the words English philosopher John Locke said: ‘Where law ends, tyranny begins,’” Trump said. “And I see that.”

    ominous prediction.
