When Donald Trump’s administration escalated immigration raids in Los Angeles earlier this summer, protest organizers responded with actions staged in an unusual setting: the hotels where immigration officers were staying.

Protests took place at several southern California hotels where Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents had been spotted. Some activists launched “No sleep for Ice” rallies, with chants and music blaring through the night, in hopes of pressuring the hotels to kick agents out.

Tor. You can pipe it over a VPN if you want to hide you’re using Tor from your ISP but it isn’t needed.

Within the fediverse we have a few blogging platforms, I think mastodon and misskey are the most popular right now.

At home you get into a whole new can of worms. Jellyfin, navidrom, kiwix, and others for hosting your own Netflix, Spotify, Wikipedia, stack exchange, archwiki, etc…

If you don’t own your router get one that supports openwrt and secure your DNS. Can also black hole most ads and tracking from the router.

I don’t know about anonymous blogging (look into Tor, maybe?), but I encourage you to get involved with your local resistance groups even if your personal risk profile doesn’t allow you to be protesting on the streets. There’s still plenty you can do in support of them from the safety of your home. (Being a computer nerd is a superpower.) Plus, the more people who get involved, the safer we all are.

First off, I love your user name. Secondly, would you mind posting any links to getting started ? I’m subscribed to selfhosted and I’ve seen Debian thrown around a bunch. But I feel like Alice after tumbling down the rabbit hole.

Any noob friendly resources would be appreciated.
