Read a great article about Russian propaganda last year. They’re not producing it for Western consumption. They know that we know they’re full of shit.

Here’s the thing, the Russian people know it’s all bullshit as well. Difference being, the Russians expect it, it’s just a normal Tuesday. This helps the Russian government because now the people think that the news they see coming out of the West is just as much bullshit.

“Yeah, we’re full of it, but so is everyone else.”

Reminds me of When Soviet defectors would arrive in the US. They were stunned by everyday things like stocked grocery stores because they assumed we were lying to our people as well.

I’ll need to try to track this down. Years ago, I saw a documentary following someone who had just defected from the Soviet Union, and got to watch him go into a grocery store for the first time. The astonishment and disbelief was palpable.

I was on a tour in Russia back in the early '80s. The tour guide took us to a big shopping mall and was just going on and on about how wonderful it was. The shelves were mostly bare, the selections were super limited. A guy in our group leaned over and whispered,“She’d have a bloody heart attack if she walked into Harrods!”
