I sense that they will be the next targeted population once ICE is done with the undocumented. They are easy to find. Low lying fruit so to speak.

My husband works in our local city and sees so many. He admits he has a soft heart and gives them money – for which his coworkers berate him. He said he saw a guy sleeping in a dumpster yesterday… why would someone choose to sleep in garbage? he asked. My son said, well maybe he fears to be stoned/high in open air, a contained environment may have seemed for safe for him… I thought… well, someone could say the same thing about someone who wanted to sleep safely… perhaps the shelter was full.

People in this nation are very ignorant about the actual procedures in getting green cards, citizenship… the costs, the paperwork, the time it takes. I think they are also as ignorant as to the capacity and ability of their local homeless shelters and safety nets to provide for those who have fallen through them. Most say, “they should get a job.” Those able to work do have jobs, they just can’t afford the rents or can’t pass the financial background check (d/t being evicted when they had a job loss) in order to get a rental. We need transitional housing, boardinghouses, more multi family housing and decreased zoning rules and discrimination so allowing a family of 5 to live in a 2 bedroom apt. is not disallowed.
