They announced the new special session prior to the Democrats returning to Texas, the day the previous one failed without a quorum, and they were only being put ‘under guard’ after returning to the state and prior to the new session starting. They had one avenue to block this from happening and they voluntarily gave it up for absolutely nothing.

This sounds like some supposition. Announced. People are like well if this newspaper knew at this time then obviously the legislators would know sooner but no that is not necessarily the case. They heard the session ended and I bet heard about the new one under guard. You think they spent all that time away and then for no reason stopped?

Its not supposition. Democrats stated they would return before the initial special session even ended.

A statement from the state House Democratic Caucus said that the lawmakers will return on two conditions, both of which are expected this week. First, that the Texas Legislature ends its first special session on Friday, and second that California lawmakers introduce their expected proposal that could offset the GOP gains in Texas.

Democrats weren’t interested in blocking gerrymandering. They were only interested in engaging in their own gerrymandering at the expense of the nation when combined with Republican efforts. These two private organizations win and we all lose.

Even if you argue that Dem gerrymandering is an advantage, Texas Dems could have still blocked the effort there while California Dems gerrymandered their own state. Can you answer what was gained by Texas Dems allowing this vote to go through?

The statement you quote says their condition was the session ends. They did not have the numbers to stop a vote that is why they did the quorum trick to begin with. I don’t think you understand the situation at all.
