You know that JFK assassination game where you get points for getting as historically accurate as possible? I wonder how hard it’d be to mod in the scenario you’re describing.

Lol I feel that. I’ve been playing since 2. My kids been on fallout 4 for 2 years. I had to buy a new soap dispenser because it looks like the blowtorch. He convinced me to buy a steel bucket, basically anything that looks like loot from that game. Now I’m working on an old lunch box for him, in vault-tec style but I have to do it surreptitiously because it’s a surprise.

That’s adorable. Hope he enjoys his lunchbox. Also may I suggest checking out estate sales to see if you can get him an actual antique blowtorch the heavy brass type ones? They’re surprisingly common, I used to work estate sales so I saw quite a few.

I’ve seen some at this combined “garage sale” thing. But the guy was busy and I meant to go back but got distracted and forgot. We stop at antique stores from time to time and pick up stuff. He’s always wanting me to get more ashtrays but it’s like no, the one is enough. There’s no reason for a 10 year old to have a collection of ashtrays.

Edit: old typewriters are fucking expensive these days!

The reason old typewriters are expensive is that basically no one makes new parts so folks have been buying up old ones to scrap for parts. Same thing happens with vacuum tubes in some cases.

Makes sense. Im sure he’d be happy with one even if it didn’t work, it’s just hard to justify paying that much for something that’s essentially a big, heavy paperweight. He’s also been after Grammys old “pro snap” camera for a while now lol.

Poor kid to want so much but to not have, I know the feeling well. Do you know how long it took me to get a vacuum tube tester kit? Literal years eventually found one with like 4 boxes of new old stock vacuum tubes still in their 1950s Sears shipping box. But yeah a lot of antique tech is starting to wear out and become super rare and the small scale shops that do produce reproductions and replacement parts are still few and far between, especial since a lot of them are effectively starting from scratch.
