Details here.

The claim says he raped Jane, who has a condition called mosaic Down Syndrome, multiple ways so violently that she began bleeding. Black allegedly laughed at her attempts to push him away, and once, when she kicked him, he picked her up and threw her on the floor, according to the suit. Afterward, sobbing in pain, she asked Epstein to take her to the hospital but he refused, handing her a towel and telling her that Ghislaine Maxwell, his girlfriend who was convicted of sex trafficking after Epstein’s death, would tend to her.

Spoiler tag because of the horrific nature of the crime. If you are triggered at all by sex crime, do not read it.

I always wondered if they do this stuff because they feel powerful or powerless.

Billionaires have a ton of power, an amount unimaginable to most people, but it probably also makes them acutely aware of how powerless a person is in the grand scheme of things.

    Though maybe they’re just psychos

It might be a gradual process for some though - they keep getting away with stuff so they keep escalating.

        Yeah you’re probably right.

OTOH you hear stories like how IIRC a special unit in Australia tortured people for years, with new recruits being made part of the crime, thus perpetuating this behavior. I find it hard to believe that all those who took part in that were evil from the get go. I might be remembering this totally wrong though.

Edit: also, powerlessness personally just makes me depressed, not sadistic.

Your spoiler didn’t work for me on kbin’s main site - just a heads up. Maybe put the content warning at the start rather than after the spoiler? I’m not affected fortunately (though I am disgusted), but it might help others.

Agreed. I feel sick to my stomach and I don’t even have any specific trauma in my experience that this would trigger.

If I were religious I’d ask for mercy from a higher power. Nobody deserves to experience what that poor person did. 😔

Curb Your Enthusiasm has a character named Leon Black, and I thought that’s what this was talking about at first…
