The Henry County Medical Center plans to end maternity care in September. We asked Gov. Lee what he’s doing to save the hospital’s OB unit as the process of shutting down the unit has started.
I’ll admit. I clicked on this thinking it was because of doctors leaving due to strict anti-abortion laws. But nope! Just regular ol’ medical-industrial complex greed!
Same, the actual situation is equally enraging yet in a totally different way
“Under Blue Cross’s proposal to Henry County, even with the new rates, BCBS would still be paying the hospital less than it did for OB care back in 2009.”
So blue cross cut reimbursement to the bone, and Tenncare Medicaid reimbursement is too low to sustain the cost of services. This story is going to get repeated a lot across the US, IMO.
Don’t want to carry your pregnancy to term? Fuck you, do it anyways. Need medical care going through that pregnancy you were forced to continue? Fuck you, no maternity care for you.

Horrifying. This is going to create the long term medical harms and maternal / infant fatalities that we see in India routinely but rarely seen in the UK.
If only there was a way to cut out the grifting insurance companies from the health care equation.
