Different chicken breeds have WILDLY dissimilar sizes. Like 2lbs to 12lbs and some chicken breeds can get to 3ft tall.

Here is a site I found that seems to exclusively talk about chickens with a list of different large chicken breeds.

Some areas get little quail families, running along single-file. Dangly bits on their heads and all, it’s the best!

Just list the different regional names for mountain lions and you have at least 10 more.

I mean, say what ya want (and what we deserve in most cases), but the US has a ton of diverse wildlife. A crazy amount. And even more fun, it’s super regional, including lots of pockets supporting healthy amounts of big and diverse fauna, including large predators. Many species of deer, elk, goat, we have moose, multiple kinds of bears, canines, and small numbers of various (badass and distinct) wildcats. Enough to reliably run into many of these in places, and run the risk in many more.

And that’s to say nothing of the variety of smaller life, which is again regional and diverse. Just utterly bewildering. Uhh…guess I got carried away there lol

That is a Kiwi. That’s where the word comes from, it’s the Maori name for that bird. The fruit was named after it and is strictly called “kiwi fruit” in NZ.

And now I’m reminded that I will forever be teased by the New Zealand side of my family… 😅

I found a photo showing how large Kiwi can get, before we went to see them at the Te Puia Geothermal Park, and I was SHOCKED.

“Shel, how big did you think they were?”

I put my hands up🫸🫷to the size of a robin

    “I don’t know… bird sized”

“Bird sized? … you’re gonna lose your shit when you see a ostrich”

    😐😑😐🙄😮‍💨

Why is the word bird required? A kiwi is a kiwi, it’s literally the name of the animal. You don’t say pigeon bird?

Because the word Kiwi refers to other things.

A fruit, people from New Zealand, etc.
