Probably banned for kids now because someone determined it would damage their ego or something. I always say the era of good toys ended when Tonka started making plastic vehicles. Somehow LEGO still got through the purging, barely. How a destroyer of feet still exists in today’s fragile world is perplexing.

Yeah, I’m old. I also had better toys than kids these days, and they don’t even realize it.

Do you honestly think that’s because all the older toys got banned and not largely because toy companies sell whatever makes them the most money?

You had better toys because y’all’s generations sacrificed your children at the altar of capitalism.

Nah, Gen-X here. That’s our parents and grandparents, brainwashed into the cult of Edward Bernays. The place was already doomed long before we got here.

The people currently fucking up everything right now in ways that boomers could only dream of are very much gen-x. The main exception being Zuckerberg who’s already a millennial.

[not that commenter] I can’t beleive how damaging those participation trophies were to my childhood. There I was, 6 years old, standing at the counter of the plastic trophy store, waiting for my order, baseball cap bill resting on the counter because I was 3ft 2in at the time. My team wasn’t great, but they worked hard by showing up sometimes. Today was the last game of the playoffs, as we were getting ready to spar against the worst team in the league to see who would rank 16th out of the 17 town teams. “Springfield Farm League 1997” the trophy plaque read, as the clerk placed one as a sample on the counter next to the box, wondering if there was anyone else in the store anymore. I thought, "I will cherish this trinket for life, I will remember it forever, a little piece of memorabilia to sit on my parent’s CD shelf for a few years before being “packed away” one last time. And years later, I will cry, because that trophy gave me so much promise, so much hope; if only I worked a little harder, and been placed on a better team, and actually cared in high school, and had been born to richer parents, and been able to attend baseball training camps, and had the right timing to be noticed by recruiters, I could have made it - I could have been on the farm league of the Houston Astros. But that plastic trophy ruined it for me, it made me think I could just coast. I never should have placed that order for my team, I never would have gotten hooked on casual involvement in hobbies, I never would have been always trying to scratch that itch of fleeting excitement for trivial matters. I got my whole team addicted to believing everything should just be fun and OK, that not everything should be a demoralizing struggle.

Wait a minute, the players didn’t buy their trophies. Whose idea was that? Oh right, the people complaining did it.

Pretty terrible trolling actually, as it was just a side comment on the slide into acceptance of crap by the masses. If it was trolling because it wasn’t funny, then so be it, but that’s been a long tradition of humor forums to have commentary that is serious, not funny. I did upset some people, so if that’s the bar for trolling, then sure…

But toys were better back then. No one has dismissed that claim, because they know it’s true. Sorry.

“Better” is a loaded word, so maybe explaining how the toys were cheaper, safer, more entertaining or educational would go a long way towards helping you make your point.

Anyone who brings up legislation to ban Lego withdraws once they realize that they may find a brick in their shoe one day.

Are legos even that bad? I barely notice when I walk on lego

I thought it was only a joke that legos hurt when stepped on

Some Legos have weird shapes and a side standing Lego can hurt but I’m just here thinking about people’s messy houses that stepping on a Lego is even a possibility.

This comment field taught me the name. I knew immediately the toy he meant, but I never knew the name. However, his spelling was one letter away from me calling it a dvorak-stick.

There’s some kind of bird in the Faroe Islands that sounds exactly like this toy. I couldn’t figure out what it was but I could hear it above me while hiking, it was delightfully bizarre

Love that guy’s skits but I do feel like the sound was under-utilized/over-processed in this one. Reminds me I’m overdue for the annual/bi-annual rave I allow myself now that I’m old though, gonna have to find myself a sick one for after the vacations :p

I checked this person out and want to like their stuff, but visually I find it horrifyingly overstimulating. Way too many cuts and tiktok-style subtitles. Great music but ugh, can’t watch this.

also I hope to see you at my annual rave I attend! I used to go every other week to every month, but now I’m old.

Right, I agree, when I say I “love” it I mean it gets a chuckle out of me once in a while when I stumble on it.
