New York Mayor Eric Adams did not mince his words about his disapproval of what he called the large number of “nasty” Gen Z voters supporting Zhoran Mamdani, the democratic socialist candidate leading the race for NYC mayor.

Actually Mamdani’s government would improve the country in a lot of ways, and would also be a big win for the economy of the owning class. That is because if people have more money, that stimulates consumption and that drives the economy forward. It’s like a big engine, you gotta put fuel in it to drive it.

Yeah, but you gotta think of the shareholder value for the next quarter! The Chinese think in decades. We don’t! Capitalism FTW, baby!

nobody actually cares about shareholders, the entire foundational idea around stock-markets was to essentially act as a liquidity trap, to seperate the new-rich from their $. and it was a resounding success.

as with many other things, most of the rest of the world regulated out the most glaring flaws in this setup so that it’s atleast somewhat functional, but certain rules/exceptions to rules exist within the american system that act as obscene advantages to insiders a/o old-money.

every single “crash” is by design, and the next rugpull won’t be too much longer now…

This country was founded on the idea that the New York mayor is a corrupt piece of shit. I will not be accepting arguments otherwise.

This reminds me of the famous post about estranged parents the missing missing reasons edit: fixed link

In it, the author writes about how like one of the estranged parents will be like “My child yelled at me and said all these horrible things for 20 minutes. I’ve never heard such cruelty!” But when pressed for exactly what the child was upset about, no reasons are provided.

So here Adams is saying these 'gen z" people are nasty and presumably have demands, but spends no time on what their demands are, on if they’re reasonable. They’re just nasty and wrong and to be dismissed.

Maybe there are reasons people are upset at the country right now. Could be the fascism, the corruption, the economic chaos, the climate crisis being ignored, the anti-vaxxers in power, the economic inequality…

Older than Gen Z, but started hating the U.S. when I was their age. All talk about “freedom,” but the moment you try to do something different than the crowd, some people will non-figuratively threaten to murder you.

See, Adams may be a corrupt oligarch, but the real criminal in his eyes are people who are rude to him in public for it.

After all the bullshit that the conservatives pulled, I am certainly radicalized all right. My love for the country is conditional on it not being shit.

So far, the vast majority of our leaders deserve the bowl, and in dire need of flushing.
