My initial view: “Who the fuck cares about some basketball coach?”

Then I decided to read the article anyway just to see what the fuss is about.

It focuses on her relationships with many former players, especially with those who openly identified as gay—and a reported decade-long feud with former Baylor basketball star Brittney Griner.

Yeah, fuck her. Good for WaPo.

I encourage everyone to go read the full article this piece is referencing:

Griner first said Mulkey encouraged gay players to hide their sexuality and “keep your business behind closed doors,” Griner wrote in her memoir.

“Kim Mulkey is an amazing coach; the reason I went to Baylor is because of her,” says Kelli Griffin, who played for Mulkey from 2007 to 2010. But, Griffin says, “She made my life hell,” by drawing attention to Griffin’s clothes and issuing a suspension that ultimately ended the player’s career. And she believes it started after Mulkey found out she was gay.

          Thank you!

Edit: What the fuck is wrong with this woman?

In November, she told reporters after a road game that they could blame her if they were sick at Thanksgiving.

“I ain’t a sissy,” she said, holding a tissue and choking back sniffles. “I’ve got some kind of cold. It might be covid, but I ain’t testing.”

That unfortunately seems fairly standard for abusive coaches. It’s like an asshole boss who thinks you should come into work while sick because they do or that you should just walk it off when you get hurt.

I can’t really comment much on the allegations because the article was ridiculously long and loaded with filler which has zilch to do with the allegations. Speaking of the author’s writing, I do take issue with this:

Her outfits during games are legendary, and during last year’s NCAA tournament, fans wanted to see Reese and her teammates tear through the bracket, sure.

What the fuck do her outfits have to do with anything? Did the author just decide to straight follow tvtropes.com and make sure to comment on attire because a woman is involved?

On one hand, it’s fucked up. On the other hand, kinda standard for a Trumpie (an assumption on my part) with a bit of power

She certainly won’t have anything to sue over. It’s reporting named sources’ personal accounts of their interactions with her over the years. The overriding sense I get through the piece is that she’s just an asshole.

Yeah I read through it, and on a scale of one to Bobby Knight, she’s not really all that out of the ordinary when compared to her male counterparts.

That’s not to excuse some of the behavior mentioned. Rather I saw it as somewhere along the lines of, “ooh! Look! Terrible woman!”

I’m more of the opinion that the pressure to win at all costs has turned the coaching profession into a cess pool of sociopathic disease regardless of gender.

For some real fun, look up Rick Majerus shitting in a towel.
