You do you, Suzy Eddie Izzard. I think you look great! I wish I could wear high heels, sadly I have vertigo :(. And zippers? Okay, I had a REALLY bad experience with an orthodontist. So zippers kind of trigger the ptsd (JK)
She’s always had fantastic legs
I’ll be honest, I don’t think that jacket is very flattering. I’d probably take that zipper down about halfway to let the lapels lay out, better framing that way.
Waist down slays tho
I’m sorry, but this nonsense has to end. Women don’t realise how dangerous high heel shoes are for their ankles, back, and long-term posture.
I remember reading somewhere (cant find the godamn source for the life of me) that the risk of ankle injury increases by 150% for each cm added to the heel.
High heels are unnatural, dangerous, and uncomfortable. End this.
Ya but they really make an ass pop! But ya what you said
Yeah but they look cool. Incredibly painful but cool.
Also it’s kind of amusing to watch people struggling in high heels from the comfort of my cushioned, flat shoes. I’m a little mean :D
Eh… I wouldn’t recommend them for use during vigorous activity or on uneven ground. But they honestly aren’t that big of a deal for the majority of people. Around a cm of heel height is built into the vast majority of shoes. Most work boots and especially cowboy boots can have 3-4 cm of extra heel height without causing problems.
People with hyper mobile ankles or heels can be at higher risk of ankle injuries, but when people with higher mobile joints turn their ankles the sprains tend to be less severe. People with tight calves, heel spurs, hx of plantar fasciitis, or shortened Achilles can actually find high heeled shoes more comfortable than flats.
Everyone is different, just because you feel unsafe or uncomfortable in heels doesn’t mean everyone does.
Well, pumpkins, looks like it’s the age-old dilemma. Style… or substance.
Well, if I had legs like that…
Legs allllll the way down to the shoes
Two of them!
It’s the legs and heels. Damn I’m jealous.
Yeah people will/would have legs like that
No shit right!!! My god they pull off those nylons!
Really wish we could just let people enjoy things.
She looks the same as when I was watching her stand up at a crisp 240p back in the day
He not a she, he is a transvite but still a man. According to one of his comedy specials. Has that changed?
She changed her name to Suzy and became She by preference, but he is also happy to be referred to as he or Eddie.
That’s awesome, always loved her every since I watched her special Dressed to Kill on HBO when I was a teen. Was the first show I bought digitally on Amazon long ago too.
I keep seeing casual mentions of “positive experiences” with fascist companies these days. This hasnt happened before. New influx of people or paid advertising?
I try not to mention brands explicitly, but plenty of people seem to do that. I think a big issue is that brands have become verbs. People don’t search for information, they google it. They don’t buy things, they prime them. They don’t watch generic TV they watch Netflix. I have a family member that calls all sneakers Nikes. I think branding has become “better” and marketers are making their brands an important part of the activity itself. It might just be a passive culture shift due to this difference.
Because they are able to take over the market by illicit means.
This is the craziest thing I’ve read since I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Purchased from Waterstones, Deansgate Manchester.
This is not an ad.
😂 Had a good laugh. Did not expect that one at all
Glad to spread a little laughter this morning.
How long since you last went outside, mate?
Go personal all you want. I suggest you go join demonstrations against this shitfest. Or is that not real in your world?
What does any of that even mean? Are you okay?
Those are glimpses of the real world outside of your tiny bubble.
Being here and chatting to “freaks” can get you killed in the world they imagine. Good luck.
What fuck you babbling about? What fucking ad?
It could be nostalgia to the days those services where not overly fascist and still seeking to cater towards the end user instead of only making money for the shareholders.
At least that’s what this comment feels like.
Yeah, would make sense. Interesting too how vastly different perspectives can be on lemmy from one space to the next.
Some people understand that global warming, fascism and other dangers to humanity are real, others are deeply oblivious. Its fascinating.
What’s fascinating is how you turned “I bought this show a while back” into a political argument.
I’d argue a majority of the people on this fringe platform understand the dangers you name, but not everyone wants it to be the only thing they ever discuss.
Can someone with more patience than either of us please grab 10,000 social media posts from a year ago and 10,000 posts from this week, and run them through a lightweight LLM to flag up how often it’s happened?
So she/he pronouns?
She prefers she but understands that not everyone would know that/ knows her as he/Eddie and isn’t too hung up on it
(My interpretation of the reason added but she really doesn’t seem too bothered if people do call her Eddie)
Probably made even more difficult by the quotes about how “they’re not women’s clothes, they’re my clothes”. I don’t exactly keep up with celebrity news, so up until this post Eddie Izzard being resolutely a man who wore makeup and clothes designed for women was my default assumption.
Yep exactly I think she just understands that people might not be aware. She seems like the kind of reasonable person to be that way.
Yeah I even assumed “Suzy” was a character or something at first, kinda like Borat, used to make a some statement; that just feels like an Eddie Izzard move. But based on the new information, it seems like “Suzy Izzard” is correct and sincere?
It is a bit of a shame, since it does somewhat undermine the strength of dressing how one likes despite gender norms; bolsters the narrative that that’s just part of the pipeline, and not valid in and of itself. But, she’s not compelled to moderate her expression in order to uphold some banner of transvestite representation. She can obviously do whatever makes her happy and I’m happy for her
She’s trans. Not a transvestite.
In all fairnes that is what she called herself in the few specials I watched of hers.
You keep using that word but I don’t think you know what it means
Yes, she came out as a trans woman several years ago
Wow I didn’t know that. Good for her.
I’ve never understood why anybody would willingly wear high heels.
Because Suzie is an executive transvestite.
Elle est une travestite executive.
Le singe est sur la branche.
Parce que
It helps keep your shoes in the stirrups when riding your horse.
Edit: can’t ride a house
Baba Yaga, is that you?
Why would anyone do anything even slightly inconvenient, just so they’d look more attractive to potential mates… Oh wait.
It’s fun and a skill showoff if you master it.
My first wife could run in high heels. I always laugh at people bagging on that scene in Jurassic World. Yes, I’ve seen it done.
If she was going out directly after work, she’d sometimes wear them in the OR. If they needed a tool from a far repository, she’d run the 1/4 mile back and forth through the hospital.
My second wife couldn’t wear heels to save her life, looks like our 11-yo daughter stumbling around on 3 inchers.
Skill issue indeed!
Oh I can do that. I’ve got 6" stilletos and my issues with them are straps and that they make me inconveniently tall
Holy shit those are great legs!
Izzard runs marathons like it’s nothing.
She does like heels.
I just saw her performing a one-person show of Hamlet a few days ago. Really amazing and funny. Everyone should check if she’s got a show in your area and go to it.
She (or he, back then) also translated her entire comedy routine into German and performed it to native speakers in Germany to prove that humour is not language dependent. And then translated it into Arabic and performed to native Arabic speakers (in Lebanon, I think) to continue the experiment.
I saw her solo Hamlet in New York and loved it so much. As a longtime fan of the play as well as the performer, it was a great evening on both counts.
that guy rocks, if anyone hasn’t seen his 43 marathons in 51 days documentary, it’s pretty great btw
Wait, they went with _Suzy?" That’s a choice that makes me feel old.
Apparently they wanted to use that name since they were 10. I did a little dive on the ol Wikipedia because I was unaware about the transition. Good for her though. Izzard’s comedy has never really been my cup of tea, but I’m happy to see her being true to herself.
Izzard’s comedy has never really been my cup of tea
it’s the bees isn’t it
I love how the name choice is the part that makes you feel old :P something about that made me smile
As Cotton Hill said “Gams is gams”
Elton John, is that you?
Sir Elton wishes his legs looked like that.
yea those legs took some work
but run like 30+ marathons will do that
